What does that mean? https://blog.tello.com/offers/back-to-school/
Quote :
For Tello newbies → it's the perfect time to join a wireless service designated to save you money. You not only get a great offer at just $5/mo, but the savings will keep on going month over month with Tello.
For existing customers → if you already have a family plan, any new line you add between 6-20 August can benefit from the offer. Choose the 1GB + unlimited talk & text plan for your kid (or any other member of the family) and pay $5/mo instead of $10 for the next 3 months.
For your budget → no extra stretch, no surprise fees, no soul-sucking contracts or lock-ins. This offer does not demand any advance payment. You're going to pay $5/mo and that is it.
They also have cheap paygo, flexibility and referral credits. Free hotspot and phone swaps.

FAQ: https://tello.com/help_center Your Tello service will not be adversely affected by the Sprint & T-Mobile merger.
In the longer term, we expect to see positive changes to result for our customers as regards service, coverage, and pricing.

Great deal - and the fact that this is actually an unlimited data plan because you're throttled after 1GB, not shut off, makes it even better.

that's why I linked to the FAQ, I have never tried 2G but this is so cheap with the AMEX offer I may add another line, using the gmail dot trick or add my dog to a family plan.

Do I really get unlimited data when subscribed to a prepaid plan?
Yes. Indeed you do! If you are subscribed to a data plan and you run out of balance, you can still surf the web but your data speed is downgraded to 2G and no usage limitations are applied. The allowance for the Unlimited Data option is (1)GB data. However, tethering will not be available on this downgraded speed. This limited Internet speed increases to 3G or 4G values when your data plan subscription is renewed.

You can't stream after the 1gig. It's about 56 kps. Just enough to check your mail in a pinch. Not really fast enough for useful browsing. BTW remember when 56k was considered fast internet?
