Wouldn't selling one be better than splitting the cost after doing all the legwork for them?
Wouldn't selling one be better than splitting the cost after doing all the legwork for them?
$1169 (preorder) + $102.2875 (tax in OC 8.75%) = $1271.2875 for one phone
$1271.2875x2 = $2542.575 (2 phones) - $1000 (rebate card) = $1542.575
Rebate card takes 2-4 months to show up. 2 months is rare, 3 months avg, sometimes delayed up to 4 months OR you could end up waiting 6 months and dealing with the promotions team if it never sends out. Let's use 3 months since it's the average timeframe.
Most tmobile lines are $20 add a line now or $10 if you're in a grandfathered plan.
$20 (add a line) + $1.75 (tax) + ~$1-$2 (misc fee's from tmobile) = ~$25/month 3 months = $75
$10 (add a line) + $0.875 (tax) + ~$1-$2 (misc fee's from tmobile) = ~$13/month 3 months = $36
$1542.575 + $75 (if its $20 to add a line) = $1617.575 or $808.7875/phone
if $10 to add a line then $1578.575 or $789.2875/phone
So I guess if you have the $10 grandfathered plan then yeah it is $800 split. But you also have to consider
•would he get the $150 samsung promo credit or do you get to keep it?
•He doesn't get the costco warranty but he knows for a fact its brand new, paid off and still gets samsung warranty
•Official price in stores is $1299 MSRP.
•Grandfathered plans arn't available anymore so generally the $20 add a line is the standard price should he benefit off of that
Although he may argue that he doesn't get the costco warranty. There's lots of things going against you since you're taking the risk by opening the line and doing the leg work. $800 would be friends & family price. $900-$950 would be a more fair price for a slickdeals trade. Whereas $1000-$1150 would be a craigslist type price.
Not taking sides or anything but trying to point out the facts and benefits for both parties. In the end it doesn't even matter about who is benefiting more but if you're willing to let go of your extra device at a certain price and if he's willling to buy at that price. If you wanted to go by the books and say look you can't buy it outside for $800 so I'll sell it to you for $900 and he accepts cool or it could go the other way and you agree to sell for $750-$800 but you get to keep the $150 samsung credit.
7.25% Taxes = $ 170
Line Cost = $ 70 ($23x3) Extra line is $20 plus tax. From past experience rebates get paid within 45 days so, I have been able to cancel the line end of month 2, but allowing 3 months this time.
--------------
Total $2,580
Rebate - $1,000
-------------
Final Cost $1,580 Equals $790 each
So, $790 for each Note 20 Ultra and I have 2 x $150 accessory credit on top for each device.
If I sell one for over $800 my cost for the 1 goes down accordingly.

Generally in november they start offering BOGO rather than $1000 off the 2nd phone. If you're willing to wait 2-4 months it'll probably start popping up. You can search previous deals for note 8 and 9 which also came out around august in previous years.
If you're asking about If you buy the phone now and in 3 months they have a BOGO promo if you can return the phone and get the bogo price or do that promo instead. They simply won't refund or match the price. You'd have to go through the entire process of returning your phone, closing the line AND THEN open a new line for the new promo. Keep in mind that generally for these add a line promotions if you cancelled any lines within the previous 90 days you have to reinstate them before getting the new promo. You'd also technically have to return all the promo stuff you got from the previous offer ($1,000 rebate card and $150 samsung credit) but in the past people got away with it sometimes.

My calculation comes out to $685 per phone after applying $1000 rebate and $150 accessory credit. Slick!!
I would not be giving the $150 credit when I sell the 2nd Note 20 Ultra and I assume I will get on the low end, which is not what I would do unless it wasn't selling at the higher end between $900 - $1,100 on Swappa for a little fee and shipping or Craigslist/Offfer Up for no fee
Since you have multiple samsung credits though... the next question is can you apply more than 2 credits to one purchase? In the past I didn't want to risk it or bother with customer service so I use each credit on seperate orders.

I purchased mine from Samsung yesterday with my 50% Insights discount and other discounts, unidays, cashback, Discover/Paypal etc.......Final cost will be $465 and that is including the $200 accessories credit that I got.
I sold my Note 10+ for $670 last week.
