OK deal if you only need a few wiring devices. If you have a larger amount of Leviton Wiring Devices, you are better off going through the Pro Desk at Home Depot and Special Ordering from Leviton.

Leviton's Special Order Pricing is Tiered and much cheaper than retail.

Buy 50 qualifying products to get about 30% off
Buy 100 qualifying products to get about 40% off
Buy 400 qualifying products to get about 45% off

To get to the tier of your choice, the trick is to order wallplates. Each wallplate counts as 1 QTY towards the tier. You can buy 100 White Toggle Wallplates for $17 and instantly be at the 40% off tier.

Pack quantities are required. Merchandise cannot be taken from store stock (Special Order only). Pricing and availability will vary by region.

Pricing Examples:

Leviton Decora 15A Tamper Resistant Duplex Outlet, T5325:
Pack Size of 10, Must Buy in Packs
30% Tier - $1.51 each, packs of 10, $15.10 per pack
40% Tier - $1.30 each, packs of 10, $13.00 per pack
Retail: $19.99 per pack.

Leviton Decora 1-Gang Decorator Midsize Size Plastic Wall Plate, R62-0PJ26-00W
Pack Size of 20, Must Buy in Packs
30% Tier - $0.31 each, packs of 20, $6.20 per pack
40% Tier - $0.26 each, packs of 20, $5.20 per pack
Retail: $11.80 for 20 pieces ($5.90 per 10-pack).

Leviton 3.6A USB Type-A/Type-A Wall Outlet Charger with 15A Tamper-Resistant Receptacles, 002-T5632-00W
Pack Size of 8, Must Buy in Packs
30% Tier - $15.11 each, packs of 8, $120.88 per pack
40% Tier - $12.95 each, packs of 8, $103.60 per pack
Retail: $21.95 each, $59.99 for 3 in a pack

Pricing is also available on GFCIs, AFCIs, GFCI/AFCI, USB Type-A, and other specialty wiring devices.
Not sure what the deal here is. These are always around $20 at Home Depot
But aren't TR plugs now required to meet NEC?

Yes in new construction. Hence why it's hard to find non-TR plugs now. But you do not have to bring old outlets up to code.

New TR plugs (I have these, I believe) are super easy to use. Old ones were stiff and hard to insert.

Tamper Resistant is all I will buy. We've had these style decora ones in our house for 8 years (Cooper Brand from Lowe's). The best decision ever. They prevent arcing and sparks when you plug devices in such as our vacuum, iron, or charger. It is not "harder" to plug in stuff and if anything it's very minimal. I would totally recommend this over regular outlets.

Edit: I'm seeing stuff about failure too. In the 8 years we've had these not a single outlet has failed out of the 400+ that at in our home. This is the new standard going forward and so far they've been trouble free and great

Only Leviton brand that's OK. TR plugs smooth comparing to other brands like Legrand

You're right, $19.99 at home depot, though this is still less, albeit $ and % wise ($1.39 discount or about 7%) not significant

I agree with this. If you want to be cautious, that's fine. But these things are an annoyance at best for a fear-mongering campaign started in the 80's.

Yes, some children have gotten zapped and even died sticking objects into outlets, but they are more likely to electrocute themselves via wiring plugged into an outlet, something these outlets do NOT prevent against.

As a whole, it's very VERY unlikely a child's death is caused by electrocution these days even with non-TR sockets. In fact, I have a hard time even finding actual numbers on it (I'm sure if I spent more than 10 minutes I could find some) ... The best I could lazily do is find that in the mid-90's, it was about 500 deaths annually for children being electrocuted. Again, that's ALL methods, including playing with toasters in the tub and chewing on christmas light wires, something these outlets do nothing to protect against.

A child is far more likely to Drown, fall, or be burnt when looking at accidental deaths.

Here's the leading causes of childhood accidental fatalities in the US, Electrocution isn't even mentioned.

As for electrical safety, a faulty appliance or cord causing a fire is the biggest danger BY FAR. Again, something these outlets do nothing to prevent.

This is just another example of regulators trying to justify their existence by enacting new unnecessary building codes, probably getting a kickback from Cooper, Leviton, and the other manufacturers.

Nice.

And word for the wise that that think 50 is way too many: Your house has more outlets than you'll ever count in one go. If you count 37, chances are you missed at least 5 Wink

Yeah I can't help being cautious because it's tough to put it out of mind once you know of the possibility that a child can be electrocuted... there is some piece of mind having these TR plugs vs buying those plastic plugins that kids can easily remove to get to an outlet. Thanks for sharing the details.
