I think most people may or may not realize that once you get into this price/level of headphones, you should really get a dedicated DAC and headphone amp. I know you can probably get away with just plugging them into your home stereo or computer output, but it's limiting what these can really do.
Great price. I am very tempted, but I have too many headphones already, according to my wife...
I have these, bought them on sale a year ago at $499 and have seen them at $429 recently. This is the best price I've seen for them.

I'd wager that most audiophile headphones from companies like focal/sennheiser/hifiman/etc are likely going to sound better than Bose for the money.

If you find the right kind of cable that has an inline mic (you could get a short 3.5mm y-cable to single 3.5 trs and then a 3.5 trs -3.5 trrs with mic) you could use these as a headset, but it may well be awkward.

Hifiman deva may be a better fit for you, but these are certainly better made and probably look better too.
