I've never used a spin bike. Is this comfortable to use just as a cycling bike, where I'm sitting rather than standing? I'm an out of shape senior, and Ii would slowly transition to standing. Would this be a good bike for getting into exercise after not having done any for a while? I'm also looking at cost.

Looking at the picture, it looks like you have to use knob to adjust the resistance which means manual adjustment? Is that correct? Or can the resistance adjust automatically like wahoo trainers if connected to zwift?

Very tempting. How does it compare to the Schwinn IC4?

I was one of the lucky few who got this in April. I used to ride a tour de France spin bike at the gym and the quality of this bike is much better. I actually like it better that it has no screen. Using the app it still allows me to track my progress in freestyle mode. I have a Playlist on YouTube of free spin classes and just pick one and go at it. I use a tablet for the YouTube and my phone with the app open. That way I can adjust the tension in real time since the only way to see it is in the app. This is a high quality bike and uses a magnetic tension not a cheap felt pad. For $500 I paid its a steal.
Can you use this machine without any apps?

You might want a recumbent bike like this: https://sunnyhealthfitness.com/pr...-sf-rb4936

Should be easier to get on and off without having to swinging a leg over a bike frame.

What is the footprint needed for the bike? Trying to see if it will fit into the guest bedroom that I've converted into my home office space.

I think it's a good option. Walmart has free shipping and easy to return if it doesn't work out or get a lemon.
I was hesitant of getting a bike with a screen as they will look silly at some point with screens getting More advanced. you can't swap out the screen without buying the latest model and may have a case of upgradeitis..also from what it looks like you can't have any other apps on peloton like Netflix a web browser or YouTube only peloton stuff so you will need another device if you want to watch something else . All you need to do here is use the tablet you probably already have or a tv you probably already have.

Not criticizing, was just curious to weight benefits... what metrics you thought were helpful or just couldn't live without?
So, when used correctly (by which I mean a specific type of training) you can easily track your functional threshold power (FTP) on a peloton. Although it doesn't use a true power meter, the peloton will track your best output per time duration (15m ride, 30m etc). As you improve and grow stronger your FTP can increase, but FTP is only one measure, you can also track your watts/kg (power to weight ratio) which gives you a better idea of how strong someone is pound for pound. The echelon you can probably FIND a way to track this stuff but with the peloton it's at your finger tips and pretty simple/straight forward.

Businesses don't charge based on quality, they charge the maximum they can get away with. Quality and price are only loosely correlated.
I recall listening to a podcast with their CEO and they had so much trouble selling the bike at around this $500-$800 price point. Once they bumped it over $1k they started selling like crazy. There's a psychology to premium products where if you don't price them just right people will think they are cheap and won't look at it. Starbucks is another great example of this.

So how is this any better than any other bike? I thought the whole point of pelaton and echelon was that the bike automatically adjusts?

Thank you for the suggestion and the link. I'm a young senior. Smilie Getting my legs over a bike is not a problem. I just haven't done cardio is a long while.

The metrics are pretty central to the leaderboard and are important for some of their classes, like the power zone training classes. Everything (cadence, resistance, heart rate, output power) is tracked, so you also see your improvements over time via your profiles dashboard. It's a large part of the experience and a driver for many to keep them coming back for more. It's gamification building your addiction/streak. It's One of the ingredients to their special sauce. Using an echelon for a peloton class is like buying a big Mac without the meat.

Honestly, if you want a bike for peloton, look at a suny. you're going to get a better built bike, and I believe for less. There's a whole peloton app rider Facebook group that has done their homework and will tell you what's good and what's crap. I would also look into the peloton buy sale trade Facebook group. You often see people looking to upgrade to the actual peloton bike and resell their almost new other brand bike.
