TL;DR: Worth $40, but HAND WASH ONLY, and for the love of god, don't shock it! (That is, don't heat it up to high temperature and then immediately expose it to cold water.)
I've had one of these for around 18 years. Well, two, actually. The first one was an apartment warming gift; an apartment with a bare coil burner range and no dishwasher. I used it to boil pasta mostly, and within a few months some of the enamel had chipped off the bottom. Within a couple years enamel was missing from the inside, and the ring around the top of the pot was showing rust around the edges. This is through normal use and again, without a dishwasher.
Eventually I got married and my wife made it very clear that we weren't going to use this rust bucket anymore, so I called Le Creuset and had it replaced under warranty. My experience with the new one is in a house with a dishwasher and a glass top electric range. Rust again, and more quickly (because there's no way in hell I'm going to hand wash), but no chipping that I can see.
That all said, it's fine. For $40 it's totally fine. But yeah, hand wash only and don't shock it.
I should add that I own some actual Le Creuset pots and pans, and this stock pot shouldn't be considered made by them, or made to their standards. This thing is squarely aimed at people who don't know what a quality enameled cast iron pot is.
price looks good on the stock pot...but it's made in thailand and having a hard time pulling the trigger when reading amazon reviews...

If you want something better, this Tramontina at $80 [amazon.com] is a good choice, if you want a bit cheaper, this Cuisinart isn't bad for $60 and is slick at $40 (which it is, often) [amazon.com].

Honor system, don't google, what TV show?
I bought them anyway. I already have both sized of the cast iron once but couldn't resist picking up the additional stock pots at this price.
Honor system, don't google, what TV show?
That would be Bones in Star Trek (original series), S4, Ep33
