Ok fine, I'll get a smartphone. I guess we're past the early adopter stage and this smartphone fad is going to hang around for a while.

I still have 800 minutes from the phone. I bought in November. Ugh because I use Google voice at home.
Are "all" android phones supported?
Any downside to using Google Voice?
If this works, why would anyone ever buy "minutes" from TracFone?
Yes, we all know TracFone is meant for "light users"
ThanksPeace

I use Google voice all the time (and Hangouts for texts). But you have to be around WiFi to use voice and hangouts.

You buy minutes from TF so you can call and receive calls when you are out if wifi range. Also, GV requires a GV number. I don't think they will share numbers with TF. So, to use GV for inbound calls, avoiding per minute charges, your callers need to know your GV#, AND call it. It's not easy getting friends to call on a second number, to save you money and minutes. It hasn't been easy to get my Mrs to give out her GV#, either. She'll jabber away before she realizes she just used up a month of minutes.

Tracfone experts - My tracfone plan is coming up for renewal in a couple of days. Need your advice on how to keep the number

1) if I don't renew by the expiry date how long do I have before the phone
number is lost ?
2) do Tracfone voice /data balance rollover if renewed before expiry ?
3) What is the cheapest option to keep the Tracfone line active assuming I am not porting out ? Does Tracfone offer a pay as you go option ?

Is it the latest operating system.? Wonder if it can be upgradable to future os's.
Typically, TF's haven't upgraded their Android version. But, bought 2 Moto G6xt's that upgraded to Android 9.x on setup.

Best to get a new phone and one year plan before yours expires. You can:
1) Keep your number
2) Roll your current balances into your new phone hardware
3) Cheapest is new phone including one year plan with minutes like one of these. Check HSN, QVC, Slick, and Tracfone on eBay for current offers. This one is decent.

Comes with Verizon sim for the year of service but does have all network bands & will work on AT&T after unlocking.

On HSN page for this phone there is an important delivery notice - 14-21 days delivery

you are probably gonna have to add 30 days of service to keep your phone number and current balance alive until your new phone can be swapped over.

Did yours come with Bluetooth earbuds? How were they doing?
Bluetooth works great. I use sound core and bose headsets. works good. If you install more apps, it tends to slow down. But battery life is the best and I ditched my iphone 11 for this phone - Cricket version. I do not worry about the battery for 2+ days now..
