Hmm... wait out for bigger clearance or get this now. I think back in 2018 it went down to 50% off, though this is a larger battery than the 2018 version.

I have one of these for a couple years now, runs pretty well, however the blade is awful and chips very easily. You may or may not be able to find a replacement at your local Lowes.

The self propelled one is on clearance as well. $389.35.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-8...1000698046

Both come with charger and battery but the self propelled one is 6 Ah when the one without that feature is 5 Ah.

EDIT: Seems to be only certain stores so YMMV on this one as well.

I am new to the gardening tools and looking to buy for a mower? Is the Ego brand better than this Kobalt?

Thank you for posting HitechRedneck!

I've been a happy owner of the 80v series of Kobalt tools and wanted to upgrade to the newer version (higher 6v battery and battery level gauge) since it came out but only if it were 30% off or more to justify the upgrade in my frugal mind.

Now if that 22in snow thrower will go on clearance (maybe April) my chore life will be completely upgraded. Smilie

Thanks again!

About 3 weeks ago I nabbed the self propelled 80v floor model for $300 w full warranty!

I was in disbelief as the 6ah battery alone is $359 reg price.

Getting the self propelled new in box for $389 is an amazing deal

I tried the older version 80V Kobalt self propelled last year and not enough Ooomph to do mulching so I returned it back to Lowes. This spring I got the newer version 40V about the same power as the older 80V and still not enough Ooomph but can't complain, cuts 1/8 acre of grass. I've tried a lot of electric mowers (neighbor's Ego, Greenworks) and they do not compare to my still working 15 year old craftsman when it comes to mulching, because electric mowers do not have as much power but also the blades are different on electric mowers that they do not lift and mulch as well. To get the same quality of even cutting I have to do it twice and walk slower. With all that said there are other benefits to the electric mower: quieter, no gas or mess and the mower is much lighter. It's up to each person choice.
The reason I bought an electric mower is to send my vote to support electric mowers to improve in the future. One day I'm hoping to get a fuel-cell mower that will do everything and blow all these away.

Check out this video of a head to head. I skimmed it but it seems kobalt did everything better. My unsolicited advice however, is to do yourself a favor and get the self propelled version that was linked in the first few comments. You will save time and energy, especially with a heavy battery powered mower. https://youtu.be/aItT8xrD32Y

So I have an old hand me down craftsman that is on its last leg(first summer as a homeowner). It should make it through this summer but we will definitely need a new one next year. My question is whether it's worth it to get in on a deal at the end of this summer and sit on it till next year, or just wait and buy one next year at the beginning of summer? When do the really good end of summer deals start?

What the hell, in for one. Picked up the 80v string trimmer/blower deal a few weeks back. This will make a good mower to use on the new sod until it is established enough to use the riding mower.

I have had nothing but the opposite performance with the latest 80v max.

I have seen better cutting (including mulching) with my Kobalt 80v compared to my old craftsman 400 gas.

...the newer 80v does an amazing job IMO (esp when compared to the original 80v model)

The benefit each spring of ZERO maintenance and the thing just starting every time is by far the best perk of these battery operated mowers (even if it means swapping a battery when needed)

These actually are surprisingly light. I have the push, and I've never felt like it was a chore!
