If you decide to use one, and want automated control, check out auber instruments before buying a pid/fan from a branded site.

Friend tried it and he tried a Kamado, neither were as good as my pellet grill for smoking meat. So based on that and the ease of use of the pellet grill I decided Kamado is a no go for me.

Price is good for those who want one of these, if you can find it.
I think your half right. I own an Akorn, Pallet, Santa Maria and Gas, they all got there pros and cons depending on what your cooking. If you love cooking all kinds of food in the backyard then this will definitely be a nice addition to your stable.

Between me and my fiends we have used them all but the automatic char broil charcoal one that's out there. If I can find one cheap or on clearance I would pick it up to play with. We all came to the conclusion if you want the best smoker and AOI type of grill, the pellet grills win hands down.

You are right though they all have their pros and cons, but knowing what I know now I would never spend the money on a Kamado or standard charcoal grill from a big box store.

Best bang for your buck Kamado style smoker. I've owned one for 4-5 years now and it does take a little time learning how to regulate the heat, which I'm sure is the case with any smoked not fueled by propane or electricity. I don't use it much anymore because I mostly smoke ribs on my Weber Genesis using a wood chip box. I'm a very lazy cook!

The smoking stone/heat deflector is worth it. Ive smoked 3 full racks of ribs with the deflector on and using the warming rack to increase my indirect heat capacity Smilie

I seen an ad about those self feeding charcoal one and look interesting. I have an Ooni Fyra and looks like it works similar to that. Wouldn't mind seeing one in action.

Yep that's what I am referring to the self feeding charcoal, I keep missing the YMMV on them, but would love to get one to see it in action.

Very nice on the Ooni Fyra, was very tempted to get one when they had them on sale, but I could not pull the trigger. I dont think I would be making enough pizzas to justify it and it would just be a giant paper weight. How do you like yours, do you actually use it a lot? I tried to talk myself into thinking if I get it I will be making more pizzas cause now I have it, but could not pull one over on myself.

I own this, the steel construction makes the heat fluctuate rather quickly. Once the temps get high its hard to get them back down. I have an MES as well but ribs taste better with the Akorn.
