Just type "recessed lighting" on Amazon and you'll find better deals.

First the comparison was made against one ALSO on sale at HD, second I wouldn't compare most some off brand lights to LL because with some you can see the difference. Cheapest at local HD canless made by HALO are $15 for 4" and $17 for 6" which is still pretty good price IMO. At Lowe's you're looking at $30+ for something that might be somewhat close in quality to LL. I did buy over 100 of 4&6" from amazon from different sellers and some are decent quality while some looked barely passable. I prefer round ones though since it's easier to "align" hole bit square ones look different and nicer for more "modern" look.
P.S. don't confuse these with retrofit LED recessed lights which can be as cheap as $3-5, you still need new or existing enclosure for those under most codes (I've seen cut off ends connected by wire nuts directly to Romex wire inside the ceiling without any junction boxes but I'm sure it wouldn't pass most electrical codes for sure).
The convenience of these is that they're usually 1/2" or less thick so if you cut a whole and it happens a stud or duct is above it usually it's still possible to install as long as you get space for the box and spring clamps to fit.

Keep in mind you'll need to cut a perfect 8" hole in your ceiling. I returned mine because I didn't have a good cutting tool and switching out the light would be a huge pain.

For round ones they have hole saws that designed for exact size, for square I made my own template out of thin piece of plywood (or even shipping box) and use multi tool with carbide teeth blade to make perfect cuts, sawzall and knife is also and option but take more effort.

Yeah the hole saw only works for new install. In my case I wanted to replace an existing light.

I understand your pain. You have to take our the old box/can from previous light, not just the cone. That's the problem. cutting square hole is simple.

I'm confused by what you mean...

If you have an existing hole, and you're trying to cut a bigger one out....

Don't you just find the invisible center and bore it out?

I've done it before, so i know it's possible... unless i'm missing something?
