I saw the blendtec at my cousin's place and got impressed. Especially the ease with which it handled batters and nut butters. The usual $50-$100 blenders can handle all the liquidy stuff but they give up when it comes to nuts, lentils and grains.
The only downside to the Blendtec is the noise. It ranges between 95-105 db.
I ended up ordering the Vitamix E310.(Certified Reconditioned available for $289). It does everything that the Blendtec does with a lower noise profile. Ranges between 84 - 104 db.

By the way, decibel scale is logarithmic. In other words, 95 db is twice as loud as 85 db. 105 db is 4 times as loud as 85 db. Even with the Vitamix, I tend to not run it at the highest speeds. Speeds 1-6 are okay.

I'm a retired chef and I've owned this one for several years, excellent blender. It used to be that Vitamix and Blendtec were considered equally competent but now, because of exposure on cooking shows I guess, Vitamix is the more coveted machine. I've used both and they both are excellent performers. The only thing I like better about the Vitamix is the carafe seems sturdier but on the negative side the Vitamix is very tall. The Blendtec fits under my cabinets. I wouldn't pay more than a fifty dollar premium for a Vitamix.

I received my Blendtec today from HD and the lid is the smaller latching lid, not the vented gripper lid. Looks like the third party tampers only work with the vented gripper lid. I did see that Blendtec sells the lid for $10 on their website. I'm going to try without the tamper for now.
hey just got mine, too, and i have the same issue with the lid (small opening and doesn't have the grips in the corners). Did yours come in just a plain brown box also (except for 'blendtec' written on side)? I'm thinking of going to HD to see if i can get one with the correct lid.

Yes, mine was in a brown box. I'm not sure if they sell the blenders in store. Good luck. Let me know if you're successful.

I did call HD custom service. They couldn't get a hold of Blendtec at the time but gave me their number to call. They are experiencing technical difficulties so I will try again later. I'm going to see if they will ship me the vented lid.

thanks for confirming.
you were right, they didn't have any on hand and suggested exchanging / return & rebuy. as the only functional difference is the opening at the top, i think i'll just hang on to this one. (i don't find the lid too difficult to take off when gripping from the side flaps so i don't think the corner wings will make it worthwhile to go thru the process).

I agree. The lid is not a show stopper. The blender is pretty awesome. I did send them an email today about the lid. We'll see what they say.

The only reason I would return and rebuy is to get the 15% HD cash app bonus. I didn't know about this before I purchased.

Pretty sure you'll get the same lid again. I got it and mine came with the little clear plastic piece in the middle and not the big one shown in the picture. I didn't have any warranty info in the box. I may email them to confirm it has an 8 year warranty.

Look I have own both for well over 20 years. Both have served me well.

My Pro 800 took a dump within a month of purchase. I called them up they said it wasn't registered yet so I said uh, and registered it. They paid for shipping both ways. I got back and I am happy again.

My Vitamix from Costco and Pro 800 from Bed, Bath, and Beyond each serve a purpose in my kitchen.
I might be impracticable to own both but with 20% off and a lot of BBB gift certificates made it only $350 for the Blentec 800 Pro.

I own the Classic version before they even changed their name. I got 20 years out of it before it burned out. Blendtec has been good to me and so had Vitamix. Go figure uh? :-)

Got this when it went on sale from Home Depot last time, it's great! My in-laws have a nicer one and I do notice mine is a little louder, you can't beat it for the price.

I wonder if this will cause any issues with the warranty. The website says they only cover units from authorized distributors.

Fair review, But for some reason I think the Vitamix is powerful. (entry level models)

How long did the previous sale last? Looking to buy one closer to mid October
Looks like it's gone.
