It's 4 years since receiving the sign up bonus.
You have to wait 4 years since opening the first one before you can get another.
The application date or the card open date doesn't matter. What matters is the date that you received the sign-up bonus. That date is probably the closing date of the statement in which it was awarded to you.

For example, if you met the minimum spend for the sign up bonus in the first month the card was opened, the statement closing date was probably October or November 2016. If you met the minimum spend in the 3rd month that the card was opened, then the bonus may have been awarded in January or even February - again, depends on the statement closing date. You can check your first few statements in that account to know for sure.

any chance they give more time for spending due to.. you know, this thing going on? $4k in 3mos is tough for me. And how is 80k pts = $800? you can redeem it as statement credit? whats up with no promo APR? i dont dine/travel. is this card even useful for anything else? Is this once-in-years kinda deal? i will really have to stretch to meet spending. need ideas on how to blow 4k on retail..
I think normally the promo is 60k points. I would have gotten this if I didn't already get the sapphire reserve a few years ago like others here. Yes 80k points = 800 statement credit, or if you apply towards travel, then you get a 1.25x bonus ($1000 of travel).
As for meeting spend, there are a lot of posts/blogs out there. If you have a Safeway near you, then they often have a $15 off coupon for purchasing two $100 visa gift cards (after the card activation fee you net like ~$3). Not for the money maker, but it helps move your spend needle a little closer to target amount. Overall this card is great for people who spend on dining/travel, you may not benefit from keeping it long term because of annual fee.
P.s. nice userID 😊

Since the 80k offer is on the front page of chase.com now, I decided to send them a secure message to see if they'll credit the difference between that and my 60k points I signed up for a few weeks ago. Not overly optimistic but since the offer looks like it's universal, i'd thought i'd give it a try.

That is an Incorrect statement. Not just any credit card, like AMEX, Citi, Gas cards, etc.
It is 5 new Chase cards in the past 24 months.
Where did you get ^this? I've read several places where it says ANY new credit card.

I called Chase and they denied there is a hard limit, so you can only go off reported experience.

If Chase actually approves both cards, they will almost certainly close one of the cards soon after. There are many, many DP's pointing to such an outcome. If you are lucky, they will give you the choice of which one is shut down, but likely they will just pick one. No bonus, and as a special treat, the shut down card counts against you for 5/24.
Why would they not allow me to have multiple chase cards? Are you trying to say I should not do more than one app per day?

New signups for chase preferred bumped up from 60 to 80k. Didn't see anyone post it yet.

why was it stupid to close it? I don't see the benefit of carrying a card (one of many) that one has little use for.

at the time I could have just changed it to a freedom some non fee card. oh well.

I'm lower income. I can't spend 4k without going on a shopping spree that I'll later regret. I know people will chastise me for asking this: but is it possible to scam the offer? Meaning, can I buy a couple of TVs at Costco and return them after receiving the points in 3 months? Or would they take them back?
They take it back I think. When I return things my UR points get deducted. Please think twice before doing this....

You can have whatever number of Chase cards your credit score, income, and credit limit across all Chase cards will allow. I currently have 8, and know of people with many more than that. Chase is simply not allowing people to get multiple cards on the same day.

Is it just Chase that has this restriction? I know my wife has applied for 2 in one day before, I think it was Wells Fargo and BoA.
