It's 4 years since receiving the sign up bonus.
You have to wait 4 years since opening the first one before you can get another.
The application date or the card open date doesn't matter. What matters is the date that you received the sign-up bonus. That date is probably the closing date of the statement in which it was awarded to you.

For example, if you met the minimum spend for the sign up bonus in the first month the card was opened, the statement closing date was probably October or November 2016. If you met the minimum spend in the 3rd month that the card was opened, then the bonus may have been awarded in January or even February - again, depends on the statement closing date. You can check your first few statements in that account to know for sure.

Oh wow, good to know!

Separately,
1) Do they strictly use 12 months or allow after 11 months so you can product change to a new fee card before you are billed for the annual fee?

2) Which credit card companies force you to stick around with a card for 12 months before allowing a product change? Chase , Citi, BOA, Amex?

Thanks.

AFAIK it's 12 full months for any bank- if you want to product change to a card with a higher annual fee (as is the case going CSP to CSR)

This is based on the CARD act which prohibits an annual fee increase during the first year you have a new credit card.

Quote from CARD act of 2009 :
''SEC. 172. ADDITIONAL LIMITS ON INTEREST RATE INCREASES.
''(a) LIMITATION ON INCREASES WITHIN FIRST YEAR.—Except
in the case of an increase described in paragraph (1), (2), (3),
or (4) of section 171(b), no increase in any annual percentage
rate, fee, or finance charge on any credit card account under an
open end consumer credit plan shall be effective before the end
of the 1-year period beginning on the date on which the account
is opened.

In theory you can PC sooner to a card with a LOWER (or no) annual fee, so long as the APR on the card you want to downgrade to is not higher (and this will vary widely so you'd need to talk to the specific bank about the specific change you want to make)

1. Unlikely but you can call Chase to inquire and confirm before making any changes.

2. Yes, new application. They may not ask for income if your credit score is good and they have experience with you.

Separately, in a "product change" everything is transferred, lock, stock, and barrel, including the date you opened the card that is being transferred.

What do you mean by that last point? Does it matter if the original date transfers over - does that mean I can't get the bonus again?

You never get a sign up bonus in a "product change" so your question is irrelevant.

Haha okay, sorry. I'm totally new to all of this. So basically I'd have to downgrade to the Freedom and then create a totally new second card to get the bonus?

Yes, I read someone mentioned in this thread. It takes couple of days to reflect a new offer for referrals.
so eventually the refer a friend link will show the 80,000 point offer?

Here is question for Bru_that.
I had both the Reserve and Preferred.
I was going to cancel the preferred outright but since that was my longest running CC, I had it switched to the old no-fee Sapphire card. This card has been off the list for a while now. I was surprised that it was still there for me to switch to.
I wonder of Chase still count the old Sapphire as a "Sapphire".
My plan was to also cancel the Reserve in the future so I can recycle the Sapphire line again.
I winder if the OLD Sapphire will cause problem.

Chase CSR pays self back has 90 days to claim, can I make a grocery purchase now and open CSP, receive bonus next month, then transfer to CSR and redeem with 50% points more?

That is up for debate. Chase typically will update referrals with an increased public offer, but they typically also let people who recently got the 'normal' signup offer match to the newly increased one, which they don't seem to be allowing for with this offer.

Yes, the no-fee Sapphire does count as a "Sapphire" and will cause an auto-denial if you apply for the CSP. You will need to change it again to one of the Freedom series cards and then wait a few days before applying for a new CSP. Have you already cancelled/changed the Reserve as well?

50k points for $3k, another 50k for an additional $17k in spending, with the additional 40k points simply being the points earned for normal spend (adding that into the bonus isn't really an honest way of promoting or comparing signup bonuses BTW, unless there is a special circumstance like the Chase Freedom grocery bonus). Unless someone is very limited on getting new cards in the next year - someone looking to buy/refinance a house in the next few months for example - they are better served by getting the CSP + another signup bonus or two over the next several months, or simply treat that linked offer as a 50k point/$3k bonus.

Thank you for the heads up.
Reserved is up for renewal in Jan. If I can get the $100 off the annual fee of $550, i will still keep it for another year. My Priority Pass expire Sep 2021 so I'd like to renew it before i cancel the Reserved.
Gives me time to figure out what to do with the no-fee Sapphire.
I have $50k limit on the Reserved and $10k on the no-fee Sapphire. Will Chase let me move most of the credit line to another Chase ?? Can't imagine a Freedom card with $55k credit limit

Yes, you can transfer the credit line from the Reserve to the Sapphire, or any other personal Chase card that you hold. The $100 AF discount for the Reserve is supposed to end in December, so if your next AF is supposed to post to your account in January, you are likely paying the full fee.

I am not sure what you mean by "My Priority Pass expire Sep 2021 so I'd like to renew it before i cancel the Reserved"? Regardless of what the physical PP card says, the membership tracks the Reserve card. 'Renewing" the membership has no real significance since the membership will automatically be cancelled once you close or downgrade the Reserve.

Is this written somewhere?

I contacted them and they won't match it even though I've only had my card for less than 2 months and I cleared the $4k spending requirement in just over 1 month from sign up.

No, it is not a written policy. It is their usual practice, which as shown by many recent data points, Chase has decided not to honor in regard to this specific offer.
