Not free for me. I tried and it charged $5.69.

If helpful, the director's cut is not free. The original version in 4K appears to be free for Prime members.

EDIT: Corrected the type error re. "for" Prime members. Smilie

Close encounters is one of my biggest movie disappointments. I had heard of it since I was a kid, and over the years it was built up in my head to be this can't-miss movie event that all movie lovers need to be a part of.
Maybe the movie seemed a lot more impressive when it was new, but i kept waiting for the movie to get interesting, and it never did.

And you'll get the "Sit Down, John" reference in Hamilton.

Is this movie any good? I always hear about it and then tried to watch it the other day on prime. But it was super boring. I love sci fi and alien stuff but this just seemed like all the various kinds of old obduction stories all mashed together in scene after scene. And some with bad effects. is the whole movie just random things the whole time?
