I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
This seems like a good deal and I am happy covid kept me from buying an 8 - nowhere to go!
So, it seems like the 1 year sub protects at least my gopro 5 black and that is an added plus... but my question is around the tax discussion... For someone that has already purchased the sub is it cheaper (overall) to buy the handle, clip, and spare battery after?
It's not clear to me if those three come out to $42 with
What does subscription mean here? Is there some sort of gotcha here that after a free year of subscription you end up paying the same amount equivalent to $449?
The terms and conditions for this deal are interesting:
"In the event that you cancel your subscription before the end of the initial year term but keep your camera, and in so doing, fall below the threshold for eligibility for this offer, we will reduce any applicable refund owed to you by the full retail price of the camera and reserve the right to charge your payment method for any remaining balance owed to GoPro. There is no free trial period and there will be no pro-rated refunds for cancelled subscriptions"
What does it mean when it comes time to renew? You can't cancel subscription before it ends and your subscription will likely auto-renew...so how do you cancel the 2nd year subscription?
What if you use 1 time credit card # to purchase this? They can't recharge that card...
Hi, could you tell us what discount the new Hero 9 battery qualifies for?
Thinking of upgrading from my H4 Black/Silver and I read that you pretty much have to use OEM batteries (unlike previous generations).
Given that I do not need the hand grip or magnetic mount, I would much rather get as many additional batteries to get to the same $399 bundle price (which includes one battery), i.e Would rather have x4 batteries (1 with camera + 3 additional) for $391 assuming 30% discount on batteries than x2 batteries + accessories for $399 with the bundle.
Right, I'm trying to see if the bundle is worth it.
$30 handler
$20 battery
$25 magnetic swivel clip
It's roughly getting one of those accessories free if you'd buy the other two. Although if they're all 30% off with subscription, then you're looking at only $52.50 to buy them all later.. you're better off NOT buying the bundle unless those are the exact accessories you'd want.
Either way, I'd want the
$50 dual battery charger[gopro.com] which comes with one battery, so I'm not sure I need the 3rd, but it'd be nice.
GoPro has the best video production team when it comes to marketing their new products even when they're not groundbreaking. They're right up there with Apple.
That being said I recently hopped on that osmo action deal for $200 and for my needs the GoPro 8 won't be necessary especially with accessories getting cheaper for the older osmo action that still produces quality content

When I'm browsing the accessories, most of the GoPro-branded ones say
SAVE 30% WHEN YOU SUBSCRIBE TO GOPRO
but the "Casey" cases do not.
Deal only for this week is $50 off the retail price. Includes 1 year of their subscription unlimited cloud storage, free camera replacement, and 50% off accessories. Also includes a 32gb sd card. This is actually a really good deal considering the camera replacement insurance alone is another $50.
OP says "deal only for this week".. do you have confirmation of that? Or what accessories are 50% off?

Math checks out.
But you're right, I completely forgot that all my chargers for the H4 will not work. I think I'll be pretty set with 2 batteries and a charger for $385 for the time being, and *hopefully* the aftermarket/third party is able to crack it and make decent batteries for the H9. I doubt it, but one can hope.

I just bit without the bundle.
The price ended up being $390 (vs $399) for :
Hero 9 Black
32 GB SD
1 year sub
Hero 9 battery
Mag clip
Camera sleeve + lanyard ($1 cheaper than the stick.. but I have like 5 of these already from years of go pro use)
Plus, tax was also under $40!
Anyone have any experience with the H8 sleeve? I feel like my 5 got beat up a lot from drops and falls...
Great. Bought Hero8 51 days ago at Best Buy thinking Hero9 wont be out for a few more months. Elite Plus member, and return period ended 6 days ago. At least. Best Buy pricematched itself, since the next day after the purchase Hero8 went on sale for 50$ less. Did have to call a few times and waited two weeks. Ended up getting Hero8 and battery charger for 350$ total. Bummer. Extended battery life will be missed. Will wait for Hero10. Repped.
BTW, get a monthly subscription for 4.99$ a month. Thats what I did.

At $20 each for the batteries ($14 with this discount), I'm ok with buying OEM rather than risking it on cheaper alternatives.
That is, if you are spending $50 and getting free shipping. Otherwise $10 shipping kills the deal.
Do NOT make the mistake of getting the bundle like I did. If you get the camera + subcription it will come out about $10 cheaper if you order the bundle items separate (assuming you want all bundle items).
Tried calling to change my order but it had shipped and turned into a hassle.
A bit dishonest offer/bundle if you ask me.

That seems to be the best/safest solution.

Ooh, The Handler [gopro.com] grip does not say that. It says BEST SELLER instead. The Suction Cup [gopro.com] and Magnetic Swivel Clip [gopro.com]
don't say it either. Hmm.. we'll need a subscriber to confirm what items are discounted.

Oh, here's details on accessory discounts:
https://community.gopro
This says
"Limited to a maximum of 10 items per subscription anniversary year."
If the The Handler and Magnetic Swivel Clip are 50% off, then it definitely doesn't make sense to buy the bundle.
