New GoPro 9 just came out.
Deal only for this week is $50 off the retail price. Includes 1 year of their subscription unlimited cloud storage, free camera replacement, and 50% off accessories. Also includes a 32gb sd card. This is actually a really good deal considering the camera replacement insurance alone is another $50.

For $50 more they also have a bundle that includes several accessories.
The major changes from the Hero 8 are a front-facing screen (like the DJI), image stabilization now includes horizon stabilization, and it can record up to 5k video (vs. 4k)
I just ordered one and will report back on the real differences.

Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

Now that I've purchased the camera, and have the "subscription" it looks like all of the accessories are at least 30% off, and two of them are 50% off.
They've changed the battery again. It is not compatible with the 8. Looking at the specs, the 8 battery is 1220mah, and the 9 battery is 1750mah, significantly larger. They are claiming at least 30% more runtime. bummed my old accessories won't work but happy that it is at least for a good reason.
Thinking of upgrading from my H4 Black/Silver and I read that you pretty much have to use OEM batteries (unlike previous generations).
Given that I do not need the hand grip or magnetic mount, I would much rather get as many additional batteries to get to the same $399 bundle price (which includes one battery), i.e Would rather have x4 batteries (1 with camera + 3 additional) for $391 assuming 30% discount on batteries than x2 batteries + accessories for $399 with the bundle.
"In the event that you cancel your subscription before the end of the initial year term but keep your camera, and in so doing, fall below the threshold for eligibility for this offer, we will reduce any applicable refund owed to you by the full retail price of the camera and reserve the right to charge your payment method for any remaining balance owed to GoPro. There is no free trial period and there will be no pro-rated refunds for cancelled subscriptions"
What does it mean when it comes time to renew? You can't cancel subscription before it ends and your subscription will likely auto-renew...so how do you cancel the 2nd year subscription?
If you change your mind and want to return the camera, you're still stuck with the subscription, so you'd only get $300 back.
So if it auto-renews and you're charged $50 for year 2, I would think you could then cancel at the start of year 2, and get almost all of your second $50 back (pro-rated for whatever time you had it.)
So, it seems like the 1 year sub protects at least my gopro 5 black and that is an added plus... but my question is around the tax discussion... For someone that has already purchased the sub is it cheaper (overall) to buy the handle, clip, and spare battery after?
It's not clear to me if those three come out to $42 with

It's roughly getting one of those accessories free if you'd buy the other two. Although if they're all 30% off with subscription, then you're looking at only $52.50 to buy them all later.. you're better off NOT buying the bundle unless those are the exact accessories you'd want.
Either way, I'd want the
$50 dual battery charger [gopro.com] which comes with one battery, so I'm not sure I need the 3rd, but it'd be nice.
That being said I recently hopped on that osmo action deal for $200 and for my needs the GoPro 8 won't be necessary especially with accessories getting cheaper for the older osmo action that still produces quality content

SAVE 30% WHEN YOU SUBSCRIBE TO GOPRO
but the "Casey" cases do not.
Ooh, The Handler [gopro.com] grip does not say that. It says BEST SELLER instead. The Suction Cup [gopro.com] and Magnetic Swivel Clip [gopro.com]
don't say it either. Hmm.. we'll need a subscriber to confirm what items are discounted.

But you're right, I completely forgot that all my chargers for the H4 will not work. I think I'll be pretty set with 2 batteries and a charger for $385 for the time being, and *hopefully* the aftermarket/third party is able to crack it and make decent batteries for the H9. I doubt it, but one can hope.

The price ended up being $390 (vs $399) for :
Hero 9 Black
32 GB SD
1 year sub
Hero 9 battery
Mag clip
Camera sleeve + lanyard ($1 cheaper than the stick.. but I have like 5 of these already from years of go pro use)
Plus, tax was also under $40!
Anyone have any experience with the H8 sleeve? I feel like my 5 got beat up a lot from drops and falls...
BTW, get a monthly subscription for 4.99$ a month. Thats what I did.
