It was very easy to see an option for those that don't have a .EDU address; it's clearly stated right on the site in the post's link: "No .edu email? No problem.
Click here to learn how you can still qualify. Offer terms apply." That link takes you to an option that uses the promo code "non_edu_promocode", which worked fine for me. Perhaps "Fundamentals of Reading Web Pages" should be a mandatory course.

Just a note that I had to add exceptions to my ad- and tracking-blockers to get through the "onboarding" process and to go through the cancellation ordeal.

The site is clearly designed to be misleading in a lot of ways (four steps to cancel, each of which makes you think you're making a terrible, irreversible mistake). As many others have stated (thanks!), you can "cancel", and you'll still receive your free year. I'd recommend that everyone do this immediately. They're clearly planning to make a lot of money off students who forget and will be charged $180 in a year.

I canceled right after signing up will continue to have access for one year.

Also, this is from their TOS: "You may cancel a Recurring Subscription at any time, but if you cancel your subscription before the end of the current subscription period, we will not refund any subscription fees already paid to us. Following any cancellation, however, you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your current subscription period.

Make sure when you enter your CC details that it confirms the $179 off and the code is applied.

It's a bit tricky when you sign up, you have to hit the apply code first to get the discount or else youll be charged for the fulll price.
My big issue was that it didn't show the pricing anywhere. It just asked me to add a payment method to 'explore classes'. No check-out or anything. Anyway, I am hoping support will rectify otherwise I'll just request a refund.

Here are direct steps for the non-EDU:

1. Create your account on Masterclass.com if you don't have one already. Be signed in.
2. Go to https://masterclass.com/?require_...onedupromo
3. Pop-up will show for the $1 promo, it will say added to your cart
4. Choose to sign up, it will say $1 on the screen asking for your CC - if it doesn't, don't pay.
5. I used a Privacy card to make sure not charged more than the $1.

Then cancel auto-renew from a previous comment:
In Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom just past the Categories, in the bottom left hand corner (but still within the white part of the page), there is a cancel option. It is not even a button so hard to find.

It tells me that 179 dollars discount is added but I am trying to place the order and tries to charge me 180 dollars. Is there a bug? Is anyone experiencing that?

Well, I followed all the steps, and, as soon as I inputted my card information, ALTHOUGH my account visibly says a student account, they charged me $180. And, of course their support line isn't answering. I'm about to call my CC company and get this off of my account.

I did the non-EDU signup and everything went through without issue. I didn't even have to verify at the time of sign-up

Nope. Happened to me. If you're doing it on your phone, they don't even take you to the cart. Once you add your card, they just go ahead and run it for the $180. At least that's what happened to me.

Awesome deal. I have a $15 off Chase offer on one of my cards that I was holding off on using (was planning to just do a one month), but I wonder if the $1 will trigger it!

Also, in the terms and conditions for the deal, doesn't say anything about receiving or needing a promo code. https://learn.masterclass.com/col...ffer-terms
This reminds me of how a couple months back I placed a couple of orders with Nordstrom Rack and the orders were pending for like 2 weeks before they cancelled them. Feels like these companies just use that money to either collect interest or do volume trades in the market. There really needs to be regulation against holding people's money for more than a day. Wish everyone did like Amazon and charge you only when they're ready to ship if the item isn't currently in stock and ready to ship.
