It was very easy to see an option for those that don't have a .EDU address; it's clearly stated right on the site in the post's link: "No .edu email? No problem.
Click here to learn how you can still qualify. Offer terms apply." That link takes you to an option that uses the promo code "non_edu_promocode", which worked fine for me. Perhaps "Fundamentals of Reading Web Pages" should be a mandatory course.

Just a note that I had to add exceptions to my ad- and tracking-blockers to get through the "onboarding" process and to go through the cancellation ordeal.

The site is clearly designed to be misleading in a lot of ways (four steps to cancel, each of which makes you think you're making a terrible, irreversible mistake). As many others have stated (thanks!), you can "cancel", and you'll still receive your free year. I'd recommend that everyone do this immediately. They're clearly planning to make a lot of money off students who forget and will be charged $180 in a year.

I canceled right after signing up will continue to have access for one year.

Also, this is from their TOS: "You may cancel a Recurring Subscription at any time, but if you cancel your subscription before the end of the current subscription period, we will not refund any subscription fees already paid to us. Following any cancellation, however, you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your current subscription period.

Are you outside of the US? I had to use a VPN cause I was getting the same error. Signed up and canceled within 5min, without an edu account
Was able to get it to work, I had to sign out of my account and then was able to access the promo link. Thanks!

No student account no problem. Went all the way through then immediately cancelled. I did see $180 on my card now it shows $1. I immediately cancelled, clicked through everything, all cancelled. I can still log in and see all the courses.

Icing on the cake I did 'sign in with apple', never gave out my real email address.

Maybe you should find a "Fundamentals of Reading Web Pages" course that you can take, then, because if you read the TOS it says that you still have to provide proof that you're a student.

Shocking that someone that named themselves Frontierboy has a shitty, bad take on education...
You must be a music major. Lol

Here are direct steps for the non-EDU:

1. Create your account on Masterclass.com if you don't have one already. Be signed in.
2. Go to https://masterclass.com/?require_...onedupromo [masterclass.com]
3. Pop-up will show for the $1 promo, it will say added to your cart
4. Choose to sign up, it will say $1 on the screen asking for your CC - if it doesn't, don't pay.
5. I used a Privacy card to make sure not charged more than the $1.

Then cancel auto-renew from a previous comment:
In Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom just past the Categories, in the bottom left hand corner (but still within the white part of the page), there is a cancel option. It is not even a button so hard to find.
I had to modify the link to: https://www.masterclass.com/back-...onedupromo in order for this method to work for me.

TU OP. Good excuse to add a small charge to a rarely used Credit Card to keep it open!

Seeing how far behind their production content with usability in their music lessons is is hilarious. Don't they know that any decent piano teacher online selling subscription-based lessons has keys that light up, automated transcription, etc? This is 2020. Listening to Herbie Hancock say umm and ramble is painful. The music in the segue and cut screens has nothing to do with what he's teaching.

I clicked on the offer, verified my .edu email address and somehow managed to get charged $180! WTF? Can't even find a help line to get in touch with them! Any help would be thoroughly appreciated!

Email [email protected]. The same thing happened to me. The screen confirmed a $1 charge before I ordered but I was charged the full price. I tried calling (855) 981-8208‬ but it says agents aren't available. Waiting for a reply, otherwise I'll dispute the charge.

How do you cancel and can you cancel right after paying the $1 and keep the 1 year membership active?

Hm, anyone else stuck on the page to pay for the annual membership? It shows that it is $1. I've written in my credit card information. When I press submit, it gets stuck on this page.
