It was very easy to see an option for those that don't have a .EDU address; it's clearly stated right on the site in the post's link: "No .edu email? No problem.
Click here to learn how you can still qualify. Offer terms apply." That link takes you to an option that uses the promo code "non_edu_promocode", which worked fine for me. Perhaps "Fundamentals of Reading Web Pages" should be a mandatory course.

Just a note that I had to add exceptions to my ad- and tracking-blockers to get through the "onboarding" process and to go through the cancellation ordeal.

The site is clearly designed to be misleading in a lot of ways (four steps to cancel, each of which makes you think you're making a terrible, irreversible mistake). As many others have stated (thanks!), you can "cancel", and you'll still receive your free year. I'd recommend that everyone do this immediately. They're clearly planning to make a lot of money off students who forget and will be charged $180 in a year.

I canceled right after signing up will continue to have access for one year.

Also, this is from their TOS: "You may cancel a Recurring Subscription at any time, but if you cancel your subscription before the end of the current subscription period, we will not refund any subscription fees already paid to us. Following any cancellation, however, you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your current subscription period.

Firgured it out. In Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom just past the Categories, in the bottom left hand corner (but still within the white part of the page), there is a cancel option. It is not even a button so hard to find.

I used to work in the higher ed as a researcher. Majority of our students major in liberal arts. The #1 is psychology then follow by english/literature and political science. These 3 sits at the very top. It's sad because these are the same students that couldn't find any job or ended up with low paying careers. There's a national trend to push for STEM majors.
Don't feed the troll. Anyone who doesn't see the value in art/science/culinary is literally scum of the earth.

Just going to throw this out there - I know dozens of very successful people that went to liberal arts colleges. Most don't actually major in liberal arts (but if you do, yikes).
I don't think "liberal arts" is an actual major anywhere, and if Wikipedia is to be believed, "Liberal arts generally covers three areas: sciences, arts, and humanities." If you ask me, that's a pretty broad set of subject matter, and it would seem to cover anything that's focused more on theory than application. There are probably a lot of science majors out there who would be surprised to learn that they have Liberal Arts degrees!

What's truly important for college is to have a solid plan for how you're justifying your investment. This is because if you are a full time student, it's easily a 6 figure investment once you include your opportunity cost of forgoing 4 years of working and career development. For most people, you want to justify on an ROI basis. But for some people, 6 figures isn't a big deal, so they can justify it on other bases like "education is good" or "being more rounded" or whatever. But that's the problem: for most of us, 6 figures is a big investment, yet we go to college because college marketing departments convinced us that that's just what you do. Judging by people's student loan balances, that's not a good idea. You need a plan.

This is a very awesome service. It's not like highly technical skills for college or trade courses, but instead is really enjoyable people who are widely considered successes explaining their sense of direction to you and how it guides their processes in respective industries.
Yeah, there's some really good content. Similar to TedX but more specific.

Does your emailed receipt say you paid $180 or $1? I thought I authorized $1 but the email receipt says I paid $180.

Nvm. Your email should show $1. You can get a refund within 30 days though Smilie
