I absolutely love my Quest 1. Unfortunately, the privacy concerns, required login, their recording of audio and video from the device, and them locking down the app store guarantees I'll never own this device, no matter how good it is.

Potential buyers should read the Ars Tecnica article on the Quest 2 as part of their research. Dude did not like the new version.

Definitely agree on that. That is also why I like getting from Costco for the easy return policy.

Here is the article:

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/20...vr-system/

General gist is that it is a definite upgrade on the internals, but there are some design changes that were made to keep cost down, and the facebook integration is very worrisome. Specific design changes are a new strap that feels flimsier (but this bundle includes the elite strap), controllers that feel worse, and a more restrictive IPD slider. They also were concerned that there was no 90 hz software available at launch and 90 hz over Oculus Link had not been enabled just yet. And finally, there are some very concerning aspects of the Facebook integration that are not fully known.

The only thing that matters is the actual VR hardware. Everything else can be changed from 3rd party vendors like VRCovers and frankenquest mods to make it as comfortable to use as can be.

Costco return policy FTW!

Due to all the various concerns, I was on the fence whether or not to upgrade from a Quest 1. If I really hate the Quest 2, I can just ship it back to Costco whenever. I would very much like to see how much better the visuals are with the higher res.

The device is front heavy.. This is a good deal but without the battery counterweight, it isn't as comfortable if it is anything like the original.

I just sent a request to cancel my Quest2 pre-order direct from Oculus and switched to this Costco deal instead for the refund policy (my PD is 70 so its a bit higher than the 68 PD limit on the Quest2). So I want to ensure an easy return if the Quest2 doesn't work out for me with clarity. Also its worth the extra $30 for the Elite Strap & "fin-fit" kit.

Recording is only in the Horizon app and uploaded only if you report someone just like chat logs, which is just like any MMORPG. Nothing changed since day 1 regarding the store. In fact, they announced they will make it easier to share apps with direct link in the first half of 2021.

No, I haven't. The quest 1 was very front heavy and the reviews of the quest 2 mention it is still front heavy and that the battery helps counterbalance.

would've been slicker if they added the case to the bundle.

I could've predicted Ars' review before it was written. That crowd there will crucify you if you dare to be OK with Facebook requiring a Facebook account 5 years after buying Oculus. That attitude taints the entire review, except one part in that everyone seems to agree the strap is bad. If you are an enthusiast, go read enthusiast reviews and get more than one opinion. Oculus' reputation reputation for solid yearly evolution should suffice, exactly like smartphones get their yearly spec bump.
