TMo pushing hard to close out Q3 with big numbers.

That would be a sweet deal then. I know I added 4 new lines with TMO thru Costco in July. I summited my rebates for $100 each line that same night. Then I ordered 4 new phones from TMO online by doing a upgrade on those lines. Well anyways those lines qualified for T-mobile current promos because it was done within the 14 day remorse period.

I bought 2 iPhone SE 2020 for $200 off each, a one plus 8 for $350 off and a iPhone 11 for $700 off with eligible port in plus trading in a iPhone 8. So most people on Slickdeals told me I would not get both Promo. Anyways I just checked on rebate status yesterday and I was approved for all 4 rebates and it said mailing date was 9-17. I'm pretty stoked about this deal.

I just spoke with a TMO agent on the phone, who spoke with the rebate department that manages these rebates, and this is what she told me.

It's not that "MVNOs" don't qualify; it's prepaid services that don't qualify, which is probably what all MVNOs are...

Here's my take on it....An MVNO is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (like Ting, Tracfone, H2O, SpeedTalk, etc) that doesn't own any cell network. They buy service from a real carrier like AT&T, T-mo, Verizon, Sprint and re-sell the service to their customers who prepay for service. Then there are Prepaid subsidiaries that are owned by a real carrier, like AT&T Prepaid (owned by AT&T), Visible (owned by Verizon), Metro PCS (owned by T-mo), etc.

Since the pointed purposed of this BYOD Promo is for T-mo to take away direct customers of the carriers named in the promo, I think numbers ported from the Prepaid subsidiaries of those named carriers qualify for the promo. Many people were told by T-mo reps that numbers ported from Visible qualify for the promo; if they do, then I don't see why numbers ported from AT&T Prepaid don't qualify.

Yes, this is the similar response I have also received when asked about where's it mentioned. Their idea is to have us reach them always to enquire further information and that is worse.

Does it mean, will rebates related to prepaid number port in from ebay sellers be denied by the rebate department?

From the website [t-mobile.com]:
Are there any exclusions to the BYOD promotion?
Yes, you must activate at least one new voice line and you must bring your number over from a non-T-Mobile provider. Eligible providers include AT&T, Verizon, US Cellular, Claro, Spectrum Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile. Limit four per account.

Ultimately, I wouldnt usually trust any agent for information. They're either right, misinformed but there's not really any repercussions from them if they're wrong. If you follow their bad information, it's difficult to fix.

They'll read you the terms and conditions. Ultimately, if this doesn't work, it's going to be hard for you to win your arbitration case if it's spelled out in the terms and conditions regardless of what any agent tells you.

I would only trust the information on these types of boards. However, most people seem to think the MVNOs will qualify since the numbers will be classified as if they're ATT or VZ. However, you shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work out. These boards are great for data points. However, the problem is by the time the data points come in, it'll be too late for most people. It won't be long before we start getting MVNO data points since it's been almost 3 weeks. Those rebates should start getting approved soon.

I checked with other rep. He also replied that they are trying to bring other carriers postpaid numbers to TMO. In return they offer this rebate. He also messaged like prepaid port does not give high value than post paid. I will post the screenshots in my next message.

Based on the "terms" she was reading, it seems like it could be a possibility that they will be declined if they are declining "prepaid" services. I'm not sure how they're determining this and/or if some (e.g., Visible) are classified differently than others. In this case, she said she was working directly with someone in the rebate department and this is what they told her. When she was reading the terms aloud, there was a statement about "prepaid services, such as Boost". I think Boost was the only example provided though in the information she had.

As hpham mentioned, the point of the promotion is to snag new customers from their competitors, so not sure why they would exclude "prepaid" services.

At this point, it's a toss up. Who knows what they're going to decline or approve. I think you have a much better argument if you port from a carrier that actually has the name of one of the qualified carriers, like ATT Prepaid. The terms we see specifically mention ATT is qualified and don't mention anything about prepaid ATT services being excluded. However, for Cricket, they could say "Cricket" wasn't in the list of qualified carriers (Even though they are owned by ATT).

Did you ported in after receiving the sim from T-Mobile? I ordered my sim on 9/24 and still not here yet.

I don't trust the information on these types of boards either. I go by the legal terms posted on the company's web site. That's the info that a potential customer uses to decide whether or not they can meet the terms. If there's a dispute, I'll use the info on their web site which does NOT say prepaid numbers don't qualify (I took and saved the screenshots) to file a complaint with the FCC and the BBB. It's unreasonable for them to expect a customer to call to get the terms of a promo which are given to them VERBALLY by a rep.

I recently completed a BYOD deal with AT&T. The terms posted on their web site said you only need to maintain service for at least 45 days to get the reward. On the 46th day, I called AT&T Reward Center to request the reward and the rep said I'd have to wait 60 days before claiming a reward. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the next day got an email from a Customer Care rep whose title said she works for the AT&T President Office. She asked what AT&T could do to make things right. I said I just wanted AT&T to issue me the GCs because I've met the 45 days required service. They promptly issued me the GCs.

Yes, but I only ported 1 of my 5 lines in at this point. With all the uncertainties about what does or doesn't qualify (especially since I'm coming from Cricket), I'm probably porting the other four lines to Verizon and then porting to TMO.

Do you have tracking information for your SIM? It seems like you should have received it by now.

I agree with you but I'm referring to the data points on these types of boards. If enough people start succeeding with their ports from prepaid carriers then I'd say it's probably going to work next time. If it doesn't work this time, then I'd be shocked if it works next time.

With that said, I do agree with you that this offer is intended to get postpaid customers from ATT and VZ. If I were to bet, I'd probably say the prepaids will work. However, I wasn't brave enough to find out for sure so I added a few lines on ATT and just ported them to Tmobile. And given the amount of money for this offer, it's not worth risking $1,000 for me to find out that a prepaid MVNO doesn't work.

Does changing plan from essential to magneta affects BYOD promo? Or we have to stay with same plan until promo is completed?

I received sim card today. Shipped on yesterday. Activated and ported number from ATT. Porting happened while i was in call with TM. Submitted rebate. Looks like people are porting numbers purchasing it from Ebay. How long does it take to get Rebate. I have only one number with Magenta+. It doesn't qualify for Netflix with a single line.

Checked the tracking in UPS site and it's been sitting in La Vergne, TN since 9/26. Contacted TMobile several times but they could not provide any updates. Hope I could port in and still get the rebate after 10/1...

you can goto a local store and get replacement sims, and get up and running right away.
thats' what i did.
Also before i went to the store, i called customer service to complain about the shipping taking long, and they approved to credit any charges the store would assess, but the store just gave the sim cards for free.
