This is also the same price digitally on PSN now.

And yes, these will play on PS5.

Edit: Price went back to full price digitally today.

Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite games of all time. That being said, KH3 was a HUGE let down.

The story is good though. Just watch the story on YouTube.
I don't know if I would call the story good. It's a tangled mess of spaghetti plot lines, characters with all-too-similar names, plot hooks dependent on a mobile pay-to-win game, all told through awkwardly paced 2000s-era cutscenes (even in KH3) that last way too long.

Half your gameplay time is watching these painful cutscenes just to get to the pretty decent gameplay. Halfway through 3 I ended up just skipping cutscenes and just read plot summaries as I went along. Much quicker, and made way more sense.

The niche there is a lot of the Western audience LOVES Disney movies from before 2000, with a couple following afterward. The Western audience also loves Final Fantasy. Combining both was an orgasmic level of crossover. I can agree that the series' high point was around KH2 back in 2005. But 3 was definitely late in coming (15 years), and is very polarizing as is the whole series.

I have no doubt that after KH2, that was the series' going downhill. Spinoff after spinoff just diluted things down and kept fans from getting the KH game they wanted. Of course, KH3 wasn't the only one to suffer from waiting too long. Versus XIII turning into XV and becoming a piecemeal experience (with DLC chapters for added story/context, and not even all of them got finished!) was also an issue. But then, SE focused more on mostly ports of old games, mobile gacha...and they had the occasional hit or release of something new.

TL;DR summary: KH1 and 2 was the series' high point. KH3 took too long and had way too many spinoffs/lore come out in that time in between. Series' appeal is polarizing. SE wasn't the best at business decisions for a good decade plus.

Had the Nintendo games come out for PS previously?

KH1 and 2 are good, KH 3D was great on 3DS, and chain of memories was bad...I think I skipped most of the rest of these.

I've watched the 60 minute lore youtube more than once and the plot still doesn't make sense and I'm a reasonably intelligent person.

At this point it's a you problem not a me problem. KH 1 had so much promise... All this insanely convoluted story through mediocre games on like 4 platforms, no thanks.

KH1 and K2 were both really fun games, and I enjoyed the hell out of them. KH3 was really bad. I think the only enjoyable part was the Pirates world. It makes me wish the whole game was Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

I know Sony is saying that PS5 is backwards compatible with nearly all PS4 games, but I still can't help to think that they will still re-release a "PS5 version" of a large chunk of the PS4 library and price it at full retail... That's the new thing for publishers and developers these days sadly.
So what if they do? If the devs put in a lot more work to enhance it... why shouldnt they get paid? You can play your old version still.

Yup, I see that happening and then they'll release a minor "updated" version that is pretty much the same but maybe slightly slimmer and it quietly drops backward compatibility with any PS4 games. Basically what happened with PS3 backward compatibility in PS4 console. It was short lived.

These games were pretty tamed when they were first released.

What kind of censorship did you hear about?

The worst part of this franchise:

It has spilled over into Final Fantasy.
Specifically FVII remake.

Thanks Tetsuya Nomura 👍✌️.
