I got the Samsung when it came out with an intention to replace it. For same price I would have gotten IPS because I mostly use it for work (text based documents + browsers).
I read a lot about curved being useful on ultra-wide. Initially I was against it (have a curved TV and it's a gimmick) but now tend to believe it is useful.
I can only concentrate on 2/3 of the screen. The rest I need to turn my head. It works for me instead of two monitors, but wonder if curved would be better.
Waiting for BF deals to exchange Samsung for either curved 34 or 4K 32" (ppi).
Got this 6 months back from Costco for $350. Pretty decent monitor especially if you've never had a uv before... There is some light bleed but at $300 you can't expect it to be the alienware ... Please note the onboard usb does not seem to work for data. Have seen others complaining of same problem.
Acer CB342CK vs Samsung SJ55W (got both from Costco)
Image qualilty: Acer. The IPS display blows SJ55W's horrible VA panel out of the water. More accurate color and no noticable color shift. I am also able to overclock the Acer to 100Hz stable.
Ergonomics: Acer. The only thing missing is the screen rotate, acceptable for wide screens. While SJ55W's stand has no adjustments at all.
Aesthetics: Acer. Acer looks a little more upscaled, yet the silver bottom frame is an eyesore.
For the same price, CB342CK is the winner hands down. Surprised this post was not well received in SD.

I had the same thought about the samsung SJ55w, turns out I don't even notice that the bottom bezel is not black.
