I was told in the store that I can pay off the remaining amount of the phone ($300 for iphone 12 256gb) anytime. But when I called the rep(611) i was explained differently. Apparently, the 800 trade in will be stretch over 30 months and if I pay off the phone, that, I will pay the total remaining balance. That is just plane deception on att.
The whole point of this promo is to lock you into 30 months of service. There is no deception involved. AT&T is making money off your consistent service. If you don't need to unlock your iPhone and are happy with AT&T it's a great deal.

I'd be happy to agree to stay with them for 30 months, it's the forcing me onto a plan that costs twice as much per month I object to.

Bring back the (option) of a fixed-duration contract on your EXISTING plan in exchange for the big phone discount and I'm all over it... This 30 months plus jack your normal bill up stuff I'll just pay cash for the phone, it'll be cheaper in the end than their "deal" will.

What's the cheapest qualifying phone to trade-in for $700 credit when the iPhone 12 Pro Max pre-order starts? I know I will have ~30 days after ordering, but trying to figure out best phone to get for trade-in.

I have an iPhone SE (2020) and that value dropped to $350... Will probably sell the iPhone SE (2020) privately to get back around $250-$300 to buy an alternative phone for trade-in.

Do I have to bring the old phone to store with me at the same time when I enroll this deal or I can come to store later with the old phone for trade in? Plan to buy old phone from ebay so it takes a couple of days for shipping. Thank you.
Ditto. I'd like to get my hands on an 8 from ebay or some other source to trade in. Probably won't have it by the 5th though.

So you want them to give you a discount on a phone that isn't released yet even though you don't want their service?

Forgive me if this has been asked...

What happens if the $800.00 promotion ends on 11/05, but the phones you ordered through AT&T do not arrive until after that? Am I out of luck?

You have 30 days after activation, of new phone, to do the trade in.

Must trade in eligible smartphone at a participating location and complete trade-in within 30 days from activation of new phone.

As long as the trade in value is more than $95, they give you the $700credit

Quick question:

I know that if you buy the phone from ATT under this promotion, it will be locked to ATT. Are both physical and eSim locked? Anyone have experience?

Someone in the Apple forums posted:
"To use two different carriers, your iPhone must be unlocked"

But I am looking for verification before purchasing. Front line ATT staff were wholly un-knowledgeable.

Thanks

I can confirm that both the eSIM and the physical SIM are locked. I haven't gone through the argument with AT&T yet that it kind of defeats the purpose of the dual SIM in the first place. I'm going to tell them I'm traveling internationally and see if I can get that second slot unlocked. I'm also not sure if there's a process to migrate the eSIM from one phone to another. When I activated my iPhone 12 I had to go to the AT&T store and pay $5 for a QR code and get the physical sim moved to the eSIM.

I have two questions...1) how are guys getting activation fees removed? I used to be good at that but went to chat and only got 1 of 5 refunded. Any special number to call? Loyalty/retention?
2) I have a small scratch on lens of one camera on iPhone 8 Plus. Att guy at store said he would accept it, but that everybody is different. Was curious to what what has or hasn't passed on phones that surprised you guys? Thanks!

Great, simple post. I am in this boat. I talk a good game, about leaving ATT, but I've had them since 2004. I have no intention of leaving, especially since I have Directv/Att fiber. I get both of those services yearly for 60 total. I have HBO MAX about 7 different ways free (kidding of course). Att has got me where they want me. So for me not to take advantage of this this deal is insane.
