The weak part on this Lenovo is that it has the slower SATA SSD drive instead of the faster and desirable
NVMe M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 InterfaceSolid State Drive.
I will pass.
This is the perfect laptop for most people. Fast CPU, plenty of RAM and SSD storage, 14" touchscreen, backlit keyboard, 2x2 AX, Power Delivery, and speakers that are on top of the chassis. Even has a dedicated GPU if you want to some very light gaming. If I didn't already have a work laptop, this would be a serious contender; it's sad that it doesn't have a Ryzen CPU, but that's just me nitpicking.

Really only matters in benchmarks only, real life day to day use, there's negligible difference.

I've been out of the CPU game for a while now, just using whatever work gives me, but I'm trying to help my technically challenged parents buy a new computer. Is this a good option for the basics and to reduce the technical support calls I receive? Any other recommendations?

Yes. This is good for them. Or the costco deal which is $50 more but you get better support

Yes 11th is better, but it all comes down to price.
