- Purchase an eligible smartphone on a qualifying installment agreement, including taxes on full retail price (up front) and $30 activation/upgrade fee.

If we use this promotion/pay off the phone installments to unlock the phone, so we can have an unlocked phone for international sims while traveling, do we still continue to receive the credits for 30 months?

So what's the trade in values of the phones?
Edit: I don't see trade in values anywhere. They do say if the phone is eligible for trade in and the value is more than $35, you automatically get at least $350. Of course AT&T makes this whole process confusing while Apple simply tells you how much your device is worth right away.

You can only trade in the XRs if they are paid off. Your best bet would be to find a deal on a working iphone 8, and use that for the trade in on the account out of contract.
Sprint used to have similar deals, but only for 18 months.
