I've been playing the long game in deciding on a brand that I like to work with while keeping affordability in mind.

So far 3d Solutech has been pleasant enough to work with and is among the cheaper brands, so lately I buy it pretty exclusively.

However if deals come about for a brand I haven't tried yet, like this one, I'll still give it a shot.
The black and grey 2 pack is an even better deal if you want both colors, works out to $15.17 a spool.

TECBEARS PLA 3D Printer Filament 1.75mm Black+ Gray, Dimensional Accuracy +/- 0.02 mm, 1 Kg Spool, Pack of 2 https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0817...JFb5BXRNHK

In for one of those, thanks for the post.

Is there general knowledge on good brands or is the idea just to go with a brand with overwhelming good reviews?

I just ordered this same PLA last week. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but a friend who ordered at the same time did and he said it's fine as long as you bump up the temps a bit. This PLA likes 210-215 range, while my other PLA tend to be in the 200-205 range. So basically, bump up your temps by like 5-10 degrees..

I bought a two pack (black/white). This company always seems to have a coupon out for a two pack that brings the price down. My two pack cost me $33.14 plus tax, so about the same money per roll as this deal (actually a bit cheaper).

They also have a 3 pack of shiny Gold/Silver/Copper that seems to be on sale with coupon for about the same price per roll quite often.

Have you tried them recently? From March - July it was just way too brittle. Any better now?

My last order from them was 2 rolls of black PLA at the end of August. I printed a rather large wall mount for my Valve index and a mini drawer for under my desk, and both seem ok.

There are a fair amount of newer reviews indicating exactly what you are experiencing though. I'm hoping they just had a bad batch that wasn't treated properly and things will go back to normal.

For what it's worth I tested this some months ago and it performed well.

I bought navy blue 3d solutech in August and it was very brittle and kept breaking. Switched over to hatchbox cause so many recommendations. Only had it a couple weeks. So far so good. May try overture next. New to 3d printing.

Same thing here. I dehydrated that roll and it is fine now. A batch had to have a bad storage/sealing run. Ordered some since and no issues

Proto Pasta is hands down the best filament I have ever printed with(and ive done thousands and thousands of hours of printing over the last 8 years). Does cost a premium though. Hatchbox has been a pretty reliable cheaper option as well.
