Google Fi: Get a new Pixel 4a for $216 ($9/mo phone subscription)

If you're in Google Fi, they have a new "phone subscription [google.com]" service for the Pixel 4a starting at $9/mo. Must be a Google Fi subscriber and must activate the phone within 30 days.

"Upgrade to a new Pixel after 2 years and continue to earn savings every month on your new phone. When you upgrade, the Pixel 4a is yours to keep for no additional cost." After 2 years at $9/mo you'll have paid $216. And you get to keep the Pixel 4a while also getting a new "upgrade". I bet you could sell the Pixel 4a at that point and get close to breaking even.

The information on the promo page is confusing, but here's what I see when I go to check out in Google Fi:

This is probably only a good deal for people already using Google Fi or thinking about switching. Individual Google Fi plans [google.com] start at $20/mo for unlimited talk and text (shared Tmobile+Sprint network + wifi voice) + $10/gb.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

If I didn't have to pay for Google fi service for 24 months I'd be all over this deal.

Thanks for posting but you should include the phone plans info. It was crazy hard to find. I had to do a Google search AND a little digging.

Turns out the individual plan is $20/mo + $10/GB. For two years that's $480 without using ANY data. I can get about three years of mint mobile for that price with 3GB/mo.

Fi really needs to drop prices on service. I'd pay $10/mo for 1GB if the voice/text was included, like Tello. They can just add an international travel fee of $20/mo or something if they want to keep the service portable but the vast majority of people don't travel overseas, even less so in the next 2 years of lockdowns...

Also, they seem desperate for customers if they sell their 4a for this price. You're probably better off trying the Visible $100 off 4a port-in promo, if it's still available and after 2 months you get $100 back. I think code SAVE20 makes the first month only $20 for Visible and the 2nd month you get a reddit party. (NVM, code SAVE20 doesn't stack with the $100 rebate promo)

If you can find a pixel 4a in stock at a best buy you can get one for about $300.

The T&C does seem to indicate of to cancel early you are charged the remaining balance on your plan. By they don't say exactly how much that is. We did this 2 years ago when we saw later how expensive their plans were compared to others. We paid it off and changed providers.

The table says that it's $15/mo including the (optional) protection plan for $6/mo. So when I went to buy it, I unchecked the protection plan checkbox, takin the price down to $9/mo. That's the screenshot I attached.
