Bought this some time back for 250 at costco. one of the units was acting weird and not giving good speeds (I checked by swapping). Saw this and bought it for 230!
going to return the other one.
btw, i have recently tried google wifi ($229), eero ($170), orbi ($440) and this deco has best performance IF you use wired backhaul.
eero wants $$$ for parental controls
orbi has NO parental controls
google wifi is 1/3rd the speed of deco but has free parental controls
deco has free parental controls
So if you have wired backhaul and want parental controls, this is perfect (if not defective, so buy 2!)
wired backhaul = connecting the remote units using ethernet.
One thing that I didnt like was the fact that this system was released in june 2020 and the firmware is still the original with zero updates. Seems like either tplink makes really great firmware or are very slow at firmware updates.
Wired backhaul is done by connecting the Wifi secondary routers to the primary router in a mesh network via ethernet cables. This eliminates the need for the Wifi routers to communicate with each other via Wifi, thereby freeing up more Wifi bandwidth to service your devices.
The only tri-band Eero unit is the Eero 6 Pro, which is $500+ for a 3 unit system vs this one at less than half that price. Not really a good comparison.

I'm planning to upgrade my router to deco m9 since it has built in zigbee. Should I spent $40 more for this? My house is only a single story 2k sq ft.

Do these have much better range than M5? Which Tp link had a mesh unit with a really powerful antenna to increase range in yard. M5 is a rockstar inside my house but doesn't cover yard nearly as good as my old nighthawk.

I currently rent the G3100 router from Verizon plus the extender. Have gigabit service. Would this be an upgrade?

or simply buy today and return it within 90 days because items also have the potential to drop for CM/pre-Christmas?

This is a dual band mesh system so keep in mind its potential shortcomings, but that would be a non-issue for me because my house is wired with ethernet and I would have wired backhaul.

What is the rationale of buying a single unit tri-band mesh system, vs a single more powerful non-mesh router? just the Zigbee then?
