The 65 Sony at Costco is supposed to be on sale again for $949 Nov.
Here's how this LG compares. (per rtings):
The Sony X900H is much better overall than the LG NANO90. The Sony has a VA panel, producing much deeper blacks, and it has a better full-array local dimming feature. It also gets brighter, has more accurate colors, and it has a more uniform screen. However, the LG has better built-in speakers, it handles reflections better, and with its IPS panel, it has wider viewing angles.

There's so much more than just viewing angles and deep blacks when it comes to VA vs IPS. VA had some issues with ghosting and smearing because of how it works and if you're gaming on it you might want to look up the difference in more detail. IPS suffers from IPS glow, which I find to be much less of a problem than the aforementioned VA panel issues.

And I am the opposite here. You said va sufferers from ghost and smearing, which are 2 cons. But smearing and ghosting is the same thing. Ghosting on high VA with high refresh rate panels are very well controlled. Most of the 144 hz gaming panels are VA. The best LED TV (Samsung q80 or q90) is VA.
I have been using ips for 20 years. The wide view Angle is their biggest strength, buy that ips glow looks awful in large screen. You have no way to achieve good screen uniformity for panels larger than 32 inch even with a perfect panel because black looks different on ips at different angle

If my kids didn't destroy anything of value I would go the costco route

- Very bright natural sun room with a bit more screen time expected in daylight hours
- A wider room connected to a kitchen where 45-60 degree angles will be used
- Primarily Roku/native app/PLEX show/movie watch use (no gaming)
Still say Sony? Does that change at all if I go up to the 8K model? Thanks!

Still Sony. Why would you go up go an 8K model? There is no 8K content.
While there is barely any 8k content, simply doing it for the upscaling alone at that size is a good choice.
No its not. Lol
