Lots of confusion in the previous thread. After doing research on this laptop, I decided to get it for my parents.

The key specs for me are:
-Nvme upgradeable drive
-Also a SATA SSD empty slot
-It is 4gb soldered on, with 1 open slot that has 4gb (thus 8gb total). RAM is upgradeable (up to 12gb, maybe more as some have reported up to 20gb).
-i3-1005G1 has better CPU benchmarks compared to the similar Ryzen 3 3200U in some other laptops I was looking at.
-FHD 1080p IPS display (not TN) at 250nits. 250nits is not bright at all, but passable.
-Windows S mode is a non-issue as it is a very simple and free to remove and upgrade to Windows Home 10.
-Weight: 4.07 lbs
-Wifi card is upgradeable, if you wish.

Cons:
-35Wh battery (lower than some other laptops that have around 48Wh), but reported to have 7 hr of usage. Some people are reporting only 4 hr of actual battery life. Battery is easily replaceable down the road though, it seems.
-Non-backlit keyboard (non-issue for me)
-Low-end 720p webcam (this is standard in this price range)
-SD card only goes in halfway into the SD card slot.

Take a look at the spec sheet:
https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/I...e%3Abv0as6

Also, it says that that you can return this up until Jan 16, 2021.
I got this laptop when it was $300 the last time around. Build is somewhat cheap with an all plastic housing and a very thin aluminum skin on top, but I can't complain about performance so far. It is very light and Windows S mode is no big deal--as soon as you attempt to install Google Chrome (or any other non-"S" approved app) it asks if you want to leave "S" mode and get normal Windows 10 Home (you can't switch back to "S" though). The screen is excellent and it's very snappy. I get about 4 hours of battery life at a decent screen brightness and normal use (web design, image/video processing, etc.). It has very little bloatware as well, I did not hear many people talk about that.

Wow, this deal looks killer! Aside from not having USB C ports, am I missing something?

If you are comparing to an i3 desktop chip don't. I3 desktops are quad core (these are dual core) and have more cache, etc. Desktop version is significantly more powerful.

Windows S Mode, only 4GB runs in Dual channel, no backlight on keyboard... But it's $300, so what can you expect? It's still going to run faster than a similar priced Chromebook.

No. You can easily upgrade right in Windows - I've done this multiple times with entry-level Lenovos and other cheap lappys. Note that it's the Home version.
