Kerrygold and ghee are top butter for functional medicine to cure diabete type 2. But the butter will make you sleepy in the morning -it is the only time you are allow to eat it when the sugar is high- ,so I mainly use ghee since I dont drink coffee and coffee is unhealthy for you eye.

Just FYI for those that my buy the Aldi knockoff version... something like "Irish Creamery." Many Aldi products are as good as name brand items, but this one really isn't even close. I previously bought the Aldi version until the Kerrygold 4 pack went on sale about a year ago at my local Costco... and that was the last time I ever bought the Aldi version.

As an aside, this sale price comes out to only $4.50 per lb, which is significantly cheaper than Aldi's inferior version, and it's even cheaper than other less premium name brand butters like Land O Lakes.

EDIT -- Note, I just checked my 4-pack box (Salted) in the refrigerator that I bought a month or 2 ago... the Expiration Dates shows Dec of 2021. So, according to Kerrygold, it's good for over a year in the fridge.

delicious, but per kerrygold their cattle eat grain about 15-20% of the year. No thanks. I started buying from a true grass fed/grass finished local farmer.
I mean, their farm is in Ireland, right? I'm impressed the cows can be grass fed 80-85% of the year up there. Irish winters are no joke.

Yeah, there are better butters out there. But as far as relatively affordable, mass produced, butter that's available at any supermarket. This is about as good as it gets.

Less than land o lakes? Wow not sure where you buy butter but LoL can be had by me frequently for $2.50 and occasionally for $2. I don't honestly know what the "regular" price is but who would ever pay that anyway? I generally don't buy butter for more than $2/lb unless we are out.

And thanks for the info on the Aldi stuff. I had asked the question a few days ago but nobody replied.

Yeah, Aldi used to carry Kerrygold, apparently, but as Aldi is apt to do, they tend to find their own knockoff cheaper version. Things like Burman's look-alike Helmans are a no-go, and the same goes for their Burman's knockoff Hunts/Heinz ketchup (I will pay more for Heinz all day long). I am a bit of a butter snob... and will pay more for good quality butter. That said, I just, at first, presumed the Aldi brand was equivalent to Kerrygold... I liked it, but it wasn't great. I saw the Kerrygold go on sale at Costco about a year ago, for this same price, and the difference was shocking. It's just better in every discernible way - just not even close according to my taste buds.

As far as Land O Lakes goes... $2 a lb, really? Where are you buying Land O for $2 a lb? Even Walmart wants $3.54 a lb for the stuff -- and Walmart never puts anything on sale. If you're getting Land O for $2 a lb, then that's a steal. Although, even at $2 a lb, I still like the Kerrygold so much (esp at $4.50 a lb) that I'd pay the extra without any trouble.

My experience .... real good..... real deal....Kerry Gold (any Irish/French butter) and LandOLakes (Black box) Everything else is second tier (Pay attention to milk fat and ingredients).

In my neck of the woods Costco's Kirkland butter is relabeled LOL (it used to be relabelled Kerry Gold).
LandOLakes (Black box) does go on sale for $3/lb at Kroger and its affiliates.

Bent prions can be expressed in milk (https://www.nature.com/news/2005/...031-7.html), so no go for us. Tasty butter isn't worth even a miniscule risk of dying from CJD and Ireland does still have the ocasional mad cow outbreak (1600+ cases since 2001, and one was found this year - the cow wasn't tested until it died, so god knows how much milk it was responsible for while infected).

I look longingly at this butter every time I pass it in costco, but I won't take the risk, no matter how small, because if you're hit, there's no cure and you die within months.

Well our Walmart only has a tiny grocery section, but when I have been in super walmarts in the past I've been generally underwhelmed by Walmart pricing. They have good regular prices, so are good for people who want specific things regardless of price. But as for me at a normal grocery store I essentially never buy anything that's not on a good sale, because most of the time I'm happy to buy the best deals and eat it. I can't say exactly what stores and when I've got it from, we have Hannaford, Shaws, Price chopper, and Market Basket. Shaws and PC specifically have a few coupons each week with pretty extreme discounts, which is probably how I've ended up with LoL at $2. But I know it goes for $2.50 on regular sales... Too rich for my blood when there are regular opportunities to stock up at $2 or less for decent quality (defined as cream and salt only) stuff.
