Can anyone really tell the difference between this fancy butter and Kirkland salted butter?

Like in a legit blind taste test?

If you think premium butter is expensive, a few years ago a fancy French-Japanese cafe in my local town started offering a version of their croissant made with real French echire butter for $1 more than their regular croissants. Delicious and flaky for sure as one might find in Paris, but $5 for one croissant.

More galling, the other two premium bakeries nearby then felt justified to raise their regular croissant prices to $5 even though they weren't using echire butter. The first cafe only lasted a few years, but our croissant prices at the other bakeries have been inflated ever since.

As a side note.... few months ago, Kirkland butter was around $7 for 4lb.

Apr-May -> 6:48 for 4 lb (Remember farmers were pouring milk into drain....)
Today -> 8.48 for 4 lb

My wife doesn't "spread" Kerrygold on toast, every morning she lays an 1/8" thick slice of it on top of inch-thick toast from premium white bread loaves she bakes herself, as high-end bakeries and boulangeries in the U.S. don't bother to make loaves of "white bread" like they do in her hometown of Tokyo.

I can't tell or taste much the difference between supermarket white bread and her bread, nor between Kerrygold and other butter, but she sure can! But I can tell the Kerrygold has a very different color, as well as texture (it's softer at fridge temp, vs the grocery butters are rock hard).

Euro butter has a slightly higher fat content and is cultured/fermented which gives it a more buttery and tangy flavor.

Kerry Gold is great butter, and once you start then you're not likely to go back to market pantry butter. Although LoL have done a great job with sustainability and giving back to local farmers, and their black label is very very good. Expect Land O Lakes to offer a Thanksgiving week promo 2/$5 or 2/$6 this week.

I'll have to look for this black label. Never heard of/seen it.

I bought 2 of the unsalted last time and have been trying to make it last! I saw this on the ad and marked for purchase! Perfect for holiday baking season!

Another note, I have been able to find the unsalted at my costco. There is a lot less of it in stock. There was a large section where they put their sale items but while walking around and heading into the dairy section, they had a small portion of it sitting with their salted. You just have to walk around and look with Costco...

It's a staple in my house. Make some warm toast and use this with some local berry jelly. Finger licking good, as they say.
