And just to confirm, I had called the CSR after opening the account and they had confirmed that I used the promo code.

All Electronic Transfers will qualify (I have made two LONG posts on this topic to explain how it really works at Capital One), and they are not going bankrupt, and they will pay you the $400. Can we just stop the madness? CAPITAL ONE CATEGORIES ALL ACH AND DIRECT DEPOSIT AS ELECTRONIC TRANSFER. THERE IS NO CATEGORY CALLED "ACH" OR "DIRECT DEPOSIT".

Quit spewing garbage.
Surely no company could be dumb enough to mail them without line 2 and leave line 2 off the checks when it's entered into the official address there.

It seems like the proper coding of Direct Deposit is something like this
Transaction Type: Electronic transfer
Appears on statement as: Deposit from Company name PAYROLL
Memo
PAYROLL
A lot of people of DoC commenting that Memo: P2P and Memo: Ext Trnsfr might not work
Ah well, It was hard to change my DD anyway.
open an account and do the transfer ( in my case $5) from your bank and add the promo code. (see some posters from previous pages that posted screenshots).
Once the account is open... you will get an account number and a routing number.
Then that's when you do your direct deposit.

You may very well still get a bonus, or you may not, but if you didnt do an actual DD, you might not have an argument to put to the CS.
EDIT: DD is also coming up as Electronic Transfer but this is what people at DoC are pointing out, that some codes might not work, read the comments there, from the last $300 bonus deal, some people DID NOT get the bonus with some ACH transfers.
