And just to confirm, I had called the CSR after opening the account and they had confirmed that I used the promo code.

Me too .. however going ahead with payroll to be on the safer side .. my employer had portal through which you can split your payroll .. I allocated 600 each for upcoming paychecks ..
- ACH deposit of $200
- transfer deposit of $500
- *checkmark* at least 2 deposits met
- "uncheckmark" "still need $300 worth of direct deposits to reach bonus goal
too bad their marketing dept can't get with their software mgmt and team to implement this stuff..
this would definitely reduce the calls.
I had called to make sure my BONUS400 was valid, they said it was.. but then I think the CSR gave me incorrect info. She was trying to state I needed at least 2 deposits of $1k each.. which I knew was incorrect. Too bad the CSR industry has such high turnover .. so they always have to train new employees on this stuff all the time (or not train haha).
And what about the amount of each deposit? 1K/deposit or totaling 1K?
I think just to be safe I'll do 2 deposits of 1001 each

Logic would tell you they are trying to get people to change there direct deposit to them so you start using them as your regular bank. If they said each deposit just be > $1k then they would be possibly be eliminating people who get paid on a weekly frequency compared to who get paid on bi-monthy/monthly/etc, just because your employer decided pay on that schedule. Do they really want someone who gets paid $1000 once a month over someone who gets paid $900/week? They just want to make sure total is at least $1000 over the course of 2 months and it's a "recurring" deposit (2 or more).
Mostly NO, but you can try opening with the code and you'll see a message after you supply opening deposit info that you're not eligible. If you get that, then you can abandon the application.

Threads like this are bad for people who overly worry.
All a person can do is try to meet the requirements from as many other institutions as they can (e.g. 2x ACH push totaling $1000 from multiple external sources). If something says "P2P it likely doesn't qualify. If it says "Ext Transfer" it might qualify. We won't know for certain for another couple months. If someone's feeling motivated they can comb through the thread to tabulate the data points reported thus far and add this info to the wiki.
Of course if someone has used real direct deposit then they need not be concerned with ACH pushes.
