After all of the bad talk I wasn't sure what to expect and was a little concerned that someone I recommended it to did the offer as well...hope he gets his soon

1 more point they of consideration around your open date is how fast it was approved/valid. Since I have other business with CapitalOne, my information auto-populated and it was same day. But I noticed someone else posted the account opening wasn't complete until 4 days after signing up.
And from what I can tell by reading the 20 or so pages of "I got my bonus," it looks like it's right around 90 days (within a week either way), but really depends on when your $1k in deposits completed. Of course there are some exceptions to the rule like the couple of people saying they opened and funded in late Dec or even Jan and got it.
Verdict:
They pay interest on the account, no monthly fees, no monthly balance or deposit minimums, 50 free checks, and $400 bonus. I'd recommend!
One interesting thing to note, like someone else posted, my direct deposit showed up as "Electronic Transfer." I think they've updated their system though because those now say the same, but have a memo as "DIR DEP

The only downside I can see is they don't have many brick & mortar branches in case I need to make a large cash deposit or get a cashier's check.
