Would totally buy a Jazzmaster if they offered this deal. Fender, are you listening?

Not really, these days -- covid and inflation and all. I bought the Strat @ 539 a month back and am generally pretty happy with it.

Think of it this way, since our lefty choices are severely limited, we have saved a bunch of $$!
I once walked into a guitar shop and asked to see what they had in lefties. They said nada, "they don't make a left handed piano!"

I was bummed.
Very true, it definitely almost completely kills any impulse buying... but I would like to know the feeling of wanting a specific guitar... almost any model, of any year... and thinking, I'm going to go order that right now. Then go online and instantly have dozens to choose from... Or even be able to try a few different neck profiles, or nut widths not upside down. I need to make a pilgrimage to one of the all Lefty guitar shops one of these years.

My local guitar shop doesn't stock any lefty's... Unless they get one in on a trade from someone who ordered a new one... But it is understandable, there can't be too many of us. I always wonder the % of the population that plays guitar, then cut that down to the amount of lefty's... It has to be a relatively small number... But I have been decently lucky on finding some pretty nice lefty guitars over the years, so I shouldn't complain.

Guitar center just filled for bankruptcy, so I'm pretty sure they'll be having some big sales before Christmas.
I'm pretty sure like any other GOB sale they'll jack up the prices to take advantage of the suckers who always fall for that stuff.

I have $20 left on a gift card. Making a trip there today to close that out and take one last look at the place.

PS - I realize bankruptcy and closing down are two different things but Guitar Center has been on the death watch for years.

At least for now, the Ch11 is only to restructure their debt, and allow them the financing to continue operating without closing any stores, so I would not expect any drastic sales, other than their usual few in-store end-of-year clearances.

While GC has been on thin ice for several years, I would not expect them to completely shut down anytime soon. Someone will come along and buy them up once Ares has squeezed their last drop of blood out of them - just like Ares did once Bain was done with them some years back.

MIM quality was pretty hit or miss in the 90's. The current Player series is a step above the previous Standard series, and the QC is higher. I never liked the old neck profiles, so to me, they are light years better.
Gotcha thanks for the reply. Mostly like 99.99% of the time I just play my Martin acoustic so the Stratocaster just hangs on the wall, looks cool though, especially with the cream color. 👍

As far as this deal goes, keep in mind that the Player Series streets for $699. Even at the "usual" 15% off coupon prices for some places, this is still a good deal for a solid instrument.

I'll quote myself from the previous thread, when they were $539 ....

"I recently picked up a used '18 Player Tele and it is an amazingly wonderful playing guitar. I love the 9.5" radius neck. I've always preferred rosewood but the maple fretboard just works on a Telecaster and I dig it.

The block saddles at the bridge are great, no wounds while palm muting.

I like to tinker and mod guitars, but with this one, there's no real point as the stock pickups sound so good. When I get time I'm probably put a 4 way switch in it for series parallel, but that's a back burner project.

Knowing what I do now, I wouldn't hesitate if in the market. "

The fact that the new street price on these is $699 means that, if you like the color, this is a no brainer deal. The "Player" series seem to be a better run of instruments overall than the previous "Standard" MIMs.

If I didn't have a house full of guitars and basses and an observant wife, I'd grab another Telecaster, as I play that guitar more than my Ultra Jazzmaster or my Vintera Strat (and others).

I bought this guitar. I ended sending it back. The nut was cut wrong (too deep on the B and E string). I could have brought to get set up, but I was not really hot on the color. Other than that, it was a nice guitar.

Guitar Center is not having any liquidation sales and they are certainly not closing stores en masse. They will get through this rough time.

I have a MIM fat strat from mid 90s ( if memory serves)

....wondering ....have they gotten better or worse or about the same?

I believe it was called artic white and was white back then.... but now is more of a yellowish tint cream color.
I have a 2004 MIM Standard Strat and the QC was and is fantastic. Great feel and playability. I bought my son the new Player series about 2 years ago and they are even better. The Player series is by far the best value out there. They are every bit as great as an American series. I have both. If you see a player series you like, don't hesitate. They are great.

I've read that they would return the instruments to Gibson and Fender, rather than blasting them out the door for pennies on the dollar.

So ultimately they might end of at Adorama to be liquidated.

Do you think we can price match this with guitar center?

If the stores aren't making money already I fail to see how they will be magically fixed by restructuring debt and delaying the inevitable.

Is this just a chance to let suckers loan GC money to fund golden parachutes for upper level management?
