Those days have passed
Would totally buy a Jazzmaster if they offered this deal. Fender, are you listening?
Not really, these days -- covid and inflation and all. I bought the Strat @ 539 a month back and am generally pretty happy with it.

The vast majority of cheap / entry level guitars may depreciate or remain around the same price point, but that's not the case for most Les Pauls for example (using that since the guy you replied to specifically mentioned it). Take a look at what some of the custom Les Pauls were selling for ten years ago and compare to what they're going for used on eBay today. If you invest in a nice guitar, you will probably be able to turn a profit in a few years' time, especially if it's a custom / limited edition Fender, Gibson, even Epiphone.
I respectfully disagree. You have a great point; but it's just too uncommon. If someone likes to gamble (kinda) on SELLING guitars at action, well that's a job. And you're looking at famous signature models, and like that. But that's all in the minds of the buyer. It's a market, it's just too small.

I just saw which comic books are 3.1 million dollars. Yes 3.1 mill. Now think. How many buyers is that? It's the, "greater fool theory", and it is a poor business plan.

Now I may offend most, when saying too many people come here to Slickdeals looking for the huge difference between supposed retail and discounted price. It's an old sales trick. Like saying $1000, $2000, $3000 and up has actually been a past price. And now; Just look! $100 is chump change. Yeah. Never asking if you need or really want it, and why. And many times not caring about the sellers character and the deal other than price. A sucker is born every day.

Now the why's can vary. Your choice; but good preference is no excuse for lack of wisdom. That's said; I have no problem if you want to pay high prices and I hope you get that much more, for those higher prices. But this is not the usual case.

Now, I know this is on the so called VERY LOW END. But my preference was a starter guitar and to learn on. i ascertain easy PLAY-ABILITY is the main issue and for new learner. I do not GENERALLY think any affordable guitar is going to appreciate, as much as it will depreciate by great percentage. Like I said their are rare exceptions. And collectors, and trader's. What is YOUR goal?

The problem is exemplified in "relic-ing" guitars. Scratches, denting, rubbing and all to LOOK practiced. if not cheating about a famous ownership. I like new looks. You might not, and fine; but these things are going to get scratched and dented, a little to a lot; if you USE them! Which you should be doing or it makes little sense to me. I mean practice!

And so PLAY-ABILITY is hard to buy and almost always extremely expensive. Unless you do it yourself. Now here you do not have to be like me; but from scratch I'd make a good Luthier (Guitar craftsman) in training. because my "axe" was so cheap (low, low risk if it didn't work out) it freed me to do my own setup grande. not throwing cash at EXPENSIVE parts upgrades, no. it's better to buy up (agreed); but not actually better, for me. Because now that I can actually play something (practice, practice, practice) i went to the music store with many guitars and tried the "feel" AKA play ability of several, from the cheapest to the most expensive. Mainly strats; just because of preference. I'm extremely pleased to report; my tweaked (sweat equity) cheap arse ebay, $50, $53 shipped (to $60 $70 $90 now) BEAUTIFUL Strat play's BETTER.

Computer with Linux Mint w/MATE OS is used as practice amp. Tricky to setup virtual, direct, sound connections for "guitarix" though. Many effects like amps, clean to metal, everything really. With online grab-able presets/sounds etc. When not simply practicing unplugged.

TIP: Installed the F-droid app for an added ANDRIOD app repository; for a chromatic "BOSS" tuner without any adds! ALL FREE.

Cost & additions:

o Grand total $5 for New Ernie Ball (Hybrid) Strings. The shipped strings weren't that bad nor setup wrong.

o I polished the fret ends and fret leveled. With a nail file sponge sander thing from the $1 store. At $1. Note they were already done partly, like many new guitars. And do not take any or technically much length off. Round the sides; but take less off when rounding the end tip point.

o OPTION: Exchanged the two string trees, leave the taller one and filling the old hole. $0

o OPTION: Reset the bridge as floating instead of only down bending. (Advanced, in that you have to read about it and don't strip anything.)

o Removed (1st time for practice) and reset the cheap nut, and groves to good effect. THE high E string is now aligned. Nut heights for lower action are correct/balanced. And I plan on installing a low cost self lube nut, soon. $10?

o Tighten screws on tuner pegs/keys etc. Used a drop of glue on any lose screws(typical on all guitars). $0

TIP: And a dryer sheet lightly touch to metal part completely eliminated static (In dry winter). And I'm SHOCKED how well and complete; that WORKS. It's sounds great, as good ceramic pick ups (pups) do, for my preference of classic sound. Texas like singles; as I can change that to heavy metal on the computer, so easily. But raw it's classic strat.

The head stock on my particular one is not labeled, like I wanted and no neck skunk-stripe. And the HEADSTOCK shape is different; but I like it. Similar to well reviewed and liked Yamaha Strat. Oh and it's 22 and fret flatter radius (easy play) neck too. Yet, still full, proper sounding Strat length neck. $53 SHIPPED.

...Took it apart and put it back together too, LOL. Most fun toy ever.

The action I setup is unbelievable. Learning to play with a light touch is important. Strats being harder on intonation with the low E, and especially when bigger a size. As is its intonation too. But no problem; I'm all over that. A new nut soon with be meticulously customized and include SEVERAL aspects setup at once.

it's not the guitar, if you can set it up. It's you. I enjoy doing it myself. This does slow down getting at your practice; at first. But there is no better way. If you pay through the nose you'll still have to go back and get it set-up several times. I'll never have that fee, or wasted time. And can do quick fixes. Mostly, custom to my playing preference or even adjusting for a few different ways/setups.

The main point is I thought I knew a big stores custom, setup Fender strats (and others) had top be the better players, or sounders, or something and I'm excited THEY WERE NOT.

Anyone who paid more just assumes I'm a fool. A very happy fool! The proviso is: WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ON IT YOURSELF? Then how can you go wrong, at $50? $5000 guitars usually NEED SETUP.

If you have a $150 Affinity then those are great and you can apply these tips too. Or what have you?

Self-control is very required also. I do NOT recommend expensive parts add-ons. It will cost more than one with the parts already there. Of course, you could buy two broken guitars and make one; for next to zero $. And sell any left over good parts. But it may take a while. But some kid with nothing can do that. Making $50 first though is easier. God bless the child, who has his own.

So however you roll; Guitars are not returning a huge amount of better; by throwing a lot more cash at them. Then there's overprice collectors guitars, bragging rites etc... Often that never get played.

REJOICE with your guitar!

Best wishes. (RIP EVH!)

P.S. Prices on many stay-at-home things are a little more for now; but that will not last long term. As noted by the ebay Strat going from $49 (before tax) to $60 or $70. At usual, buy when it's LESS.

NOTE: I looked up my purchase and it was EXACTLY $49.89 Oct 2019, and that made it $52.88 shipped TOTAL. And even the $1 sanding block was a discard. LOL. So only +$5. something for the Ernie Ball strings (Just get regular 9's or 10's; to suite you). Optional too; but recommended. And I'm getting a self lube nut ($10?); but it's fine now. Thin pencil graphite works.

Only use wood glue attaching nuts. Super type glue *if* screws require it. Use the correct matching Philips head and don't tighten them to hard. The only wood that never gets that issue is way to heavy.

Was really itching for this but after a trip to the Guitar Center I am not so sure any more. My main problem is the fretwork on the Players seem rushed/sloppy. There were 6+ MiM Player Strats on display and 100% every one of them had terribly rough fret ends. The neck feel was not better but actually worse than the cheaper Squires next to them. This particular store only had one PRS, it was a SE Custom 22 I believe and the fit and finish was miles better. I'll need to save up for an American if I don't end up getting a PRS.
$1 nail file from a dollar store will solve your frets issues in no time.

Actually, $1, 4-sided, nail sanding surfaces block. About 4 inches long, 2" wide, YMMV. With 4 different fine grains. That's perfect and 20X cheaper than most hardware store, sanding sponge blocks.

Dollar Tree online did not list them anymore.

Home Depot had some $5 blocks that are different.

This is almost exactly what i used....

And you can use flat tongue depressor shaped ones too. Even fine metal ones, to start. Just don't go to far. And BTW, try two pairs of reading glasses over each other for magnifying and in strong light.

Anyone know if Adorama will be willing to drop the price on the white Strat also? I know LPD is an Adorama exclusive color (hence the reason why only LPD is on sale). But, like other websites, if I call them will they be willing to give me a discount on the white strat also?

You should call them and ask for the discount. The worst that can happen is that they say NO, but on the upside you can get the guitar that you want at the discount.

For the record they say no, if they ask you to wait 1-2 days for a decision, don't bother!

Got a slightly damaged MIM Tele silver color with garbage alnico korean humbuckers for around $300 on Amazon warehouse last year. I snagged an EMG 57/66's at a great price and the guitar is now awesome as it can finally deal with super high distortion/overdrive. Gotta be patient and hit the used market at the right time.

Pardon my ignorance but what's the difference between these two? Just the shape? Why would you prefer one over the other?
