Just an FYI, this was posted yesterday on reddit:

Mint mobile agent just told me that tomorrow will be a Black Friday sale for new members of buy 3 months get 3 free... But the device you're using cannot have been active on Mint Mobile for 91 days. So even if you order a new SIM or phone number it's the device you are using that will determine if you are eligible for the sale price.

So if you are using google voice and renewing with a new number the discount might not work.

Unlimited Data: Unlimited means speeds will be reduced to a max of 128Kbps after >35GB/mo. or use of GB allotment for the remainder of the billing cycle. 1 month equals 30 days. Partial megabytes rounded up. Unlimited on handset and network only

I contacted Mint Mobile via their chat and asked why the promotion isn't showing up in my account after I activated last night. They said it would take 72 hours. So I will check back in a few days.

So if you buy at Best buy do you avoid the recovery fee and extra taxes and fees that Mint charges directly? And you don't have to pay that later when you activate?
It's not broken out but it works out to sales tax and e911 fee, so no recovery fees. Also, in the Terms and Conditions, I think recovery fees only apply at renewal. I'm a serial new customer so I usually buy from Best Buy.

I did the Best Buy 8GB plan that was 3 months plus 3 months more free. When activated it didn't show the extra 3 months but after about 48 hours it finally showed up in the control panel.

8GB/month for 6 months for $60 is too good to pass up.

How can I take advantage of this deal if I need to port out my number to Mint today ? My Tmobile monthly bill starts tomorrow but I won't get the Mint kit till Friday. Thinking about buying Best Buy Mint Trial kit
I started the transfer of my number from MetroPCS to Mint this past Saturday evening, and it didn't complete until Monday morning. About 36 hours.
Maybe because it was the weekend - I don't know. But nothing was wrong with the account number, pin, etc for the transfer.

Once your initial plan is up, you can switch to a lower level plan. But you can't do it in the middle of the plan. (you can switch to a higher level plan in the middle of your current plan though, paying the difference)

currently have metro and am considering switching. can anyone else who's had both metro and mint comment on the data speeds? Are they the same or is mint really lower tmo priority?

Metro works for me but the fee everytime I switch phones leaves a bad taste. I have 2 lines and mint would end up being cheaper. Plus the mobile hotspot for mint is appealing as metro does not have. But all this is moot if I'm compromising on data speeds.
I've only been switched for a day now, and I'm not seeing any difference in speeds or service. The only issue I had, is that I started the port process to Mint (from MetroPCS) Saturday evening, and it didn't complete until about 8am Monday morning. 36 hours, when it should have just been a few minutes. The Metro service stayed active though until the switch Monday, so I still had service the entire time.

Thanks. I tested it and BestBuy is cheaper for me
$60 plan + $3.60 sales tax + $1.65 E911 fee = $65.25
Mint Mobile
$60 plan + $5.25 recovery fee + $3.04 Taxes/Fees = $68.29
The $3.04 includes $1.65 E911 fee (the same) and less in sales tax

But since Mint Mobile offers cash back at some sites, its still cheaper to go through them if you factor that.

I did this (8gb) deal last year, porting in my original Verizon number. All has gone well wrt service, data, discounts. Was able to convert the original offer to a full year at a discounted rate just before the promotional 3 free months kicked in. All in all good service for the year for about 17/mo. Plan ends in bout a month. For me Mint worked pretty well, and even had a good customer service experience.
How can I proceed to take care of this new offer? I just got a new phone (thus, new IMEI) a few weeks ago and swapped the original sim card from mint into the new phone. I am thinking that for me to keep my phone number, I could port it to Google Voice and just have mint assign me a new number at activation of this new offer. Also I assume that i would have to make a new Mint account with a new email address. Anyone think this is the way to go, or am I making things more difficult than need be. Thanks for advice!
Yep that's the best way imo -- port it out to GV and then you can take advantage of new signups with any carrier. One downside is that calls forwarded via GV is not HD quality and is noticeably worse

The pros is that you will be able to make calls and text from your computer and other linked devices as well

Thanks for the input! I just checked the quality of a forwarded call, and to be honest i couldn't tell the difference. Might be my sextagenarian ears though! One more question if you'd be so kind. Once I port my number out to GV, can I port it back to another carrier (if for instance I went with Verizon, or another MVNO in future?

That's a really good question, personally I've only ported numbers *to* Google Voice, but going from Google Voice to a carrier seems possible per their page:

Yes you can. I have done that. But, what I ultimately did was make the Google Voice number my long term, primary number and through the GV app on my phone, set up my other mobiles to receive calls from my GV number. Also I used the GV app so that the other phones used my GV voice number as their caller ID.

Also for those who have asked, I have moved my Mint mobile sim between several different T-mobile compatible mobile phones with no problems. Install the Mint app from the app store on your mobile first, makes things easier.

How soon will the kit arrive for activation if ordered from mint, from your past experience?
