i picked up both the black and brown low cut ones for 39 during the 75 off sale and can say they don't look good in black, too patent like. Kept the browns tho.

Agree! Bought the 24/7 Pros for work. Lasted me a whole 10 months! And no I don't work in a dirty or labor intensive occupation. Bottom tread tore off slightly after 7 months.

That was also my experience, the treads of my field boots started to fall off bit by bit one day by the second season of use. My colleagues noticed a trail of black rubber that led back to my station and casually teased me that my shoes were falling apart. Stopped buying timberland after that

I agree. Stopped buying them after buying for 10 years because quality and useful styles declined.

I agree with your agreement!
The sole delaminated from the bottom leather of the shoe; I called timberland and they said the EPA regulations required them to use biodegradable adhesives in thier products so that they would decompose in landfills quickly.
If this is true, then the head of the EPA at that time should be sentenced to 2 years of hard labor without any shoes - seriously.

This is why sneaker collections are a bad investment. If you have a hundred pair of sneakers, chances are you'll only get a couple uses out of one pair before the glue disintegrates by itself.

While this doesn't match perfectly I wanted to give you my comparison repost of hiking shows that has Timberland

My Review of some shoes when I want to REI

1. Hoka Speedgoat Mid 2 GTX - are insanely awesome, light weight and comfortable BUT $200. Seriously in a league of its own. A+

2. Merell Moab Ii - which some dude mentioned. Very nice, comfortable for $120. A little heavy but not bad.

3. Believe it or not Timberland Maddsen Mid WP at $99. REALLY comfortable and light weight. Probably wont last nearly as long as the MOABs. Pretty sure it was lighter than the Moabs

4. Columbia Newton Ridge Plus II - disappointed by how uncomfortable they are and the weird fit on size 12. Garbage shoe

The Timberland's destroyed the Columbia Newton shoe and was on par with the Merells

My situation is somewhat similar; I have trouble gettting shoes that fit as I have a narrow last yet a wide foot so I buy shoes, and particularly boots when they fit, so if they fit I'll buy several pair and not use some of them for years. That's what happened to me, and the soles delaminated within a month.

Have you looked into Allen Edmonds boots? They have a very wide range of different fits. If you go to a retail store they'll find your best fit, but even if you buy online I believe they offer free returns until you find the right fit. Their soles are Goodyear welted and not cemented like lower tier footwear. This means they are able to be resoled and will last you many years. They're expensive, but can be had for half the price about twice a year during their biggest sales.
