You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.
It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.
Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.
back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

got a referral link, you will get $25 credit after 60 days, so you already have $85 credit, for 180 days service, you only need $180 credit, so you just need $95 to cover the left. So the total cost for the unlocked iPhone SE would be: $49 + tax + $60 + $95 = $204 + tax
In case if you can have someone to use your referral link, then actually you would pay less.
Not sure what I'm doing with so many iPhone SE purchases lately... But could probably trade it into Apple for $205 or sell it locally for around $250 I guess.

When you said Sprint sim, does it need to be say a brand new unused Sprint postpaid sim?
Thanks!
I have a number from freedompop that I would like to port over...I have tried different colors and combinations of iphone se and in all cases, once I enter the phone number, the phone jumps from the promo price to regular price...
