R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

How many months do you need to have the plan? It says the first month is due at sale but are you locked into a contract of some kind or could I just trade it in after paying for the first month?

I really doubt att prepaid will work in this phone UNTIL it is unlocked. So you do this deal with a ported number from eBay, use it with that number for 6 months. And then you request the unlock from cricket. And then you take your wife's SIM card and put it in this iPhone.

Wiki says to not cut paste account number and pin. I did this for account number but enter the pin manually. I wonder if the transfer will go through. Does anyone know how soon you will get cancellation notice?
