R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

They are looking for the contact info for the person I use to get porting numbers.
He's been pretty reliable in my experience. Someone else seconded that and it took off !
Could you PM me the contact info for the person you use to get porting numbers please? Thank you so much.

Seen a few people ask this and still not answered. If you are trading these in to apple online for the $205 GC do you have to even open the box and activate them? If so do you never create the cricket account and you are done with them?

That's what I bought, and it worked. He got me the number within 30 minutes after purchase. Just be sure to add your zip code and area code to the message. I also added that I needed one that would port to cricket. I'm not sure if you need to specify that last part, but I did just in case.
i just did this. got it in about 20 minutes. saying "Oops! We're having trouble processing your request right now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please try again later."

just turned off vpn and i think it will go through

Most people are clueless on how port-in and activation works. Here's the only thing you need to know about iPhone:

1. it will only activate and port-in when you first turn on the phone

There is no step 2 and there's no step 0.
You don't have to open the iPhone to activate the SIM card/line. You can put it in any unlocked phone to activate it.

Do you need to open a new account for this deal? When I try adding a new line on my existing account, the price is $249. The port in number is with Verizon.

I did purchase the LG Stylo 5 back in March, using the port in special pricing and it worked fine. I never activated the line back then, just use the Stylo on wifi.

Not sure why it won't give me the $50 price??

The porting number that I'm using is a Verizon number. Usually on these porting deals, when I load the page for the phone, there are two prices shown. The top price is for porting and the price underneath is for non-porting. Now, when I load the page for the SE to add it to my cart, both prices are the same...$250?
try logging out of cricket...

I read a lot of comments about Cricket being very strict about the 180 days policy. You have to use their service for 180 days. If you buy the phone, keep on paying the bill, but do not use the phone every day, then they will not count it towards 180 days. I read that a guy bought 2 phones with a similar offer, used it few days here and there intermittently, and religiously paid the bill for 6 months. When he contacted Cricket, he was told that in total he has used the service for only 5 days and he needs to use it for 180 days to be eligible for unlocking.

Can people with experience clarify this? I was about to pull the trigger but I am not going to use this phone for 180 days regularly, so this will be a complete waste if something similar happens after 6 months.
From personal experience starting in August, I think you are a victim of mis-information. I have done this and had the phone on but not used for many days at a time, and according to the website, the clock is running down very accurately. There are some days without even an incoming call, but again, getting closer to the unlock date. What I cannot say is whether or not it will still count down if the phone is actually turned off.
