R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

no, you are buying as a new customer with new account. You can put existing sim in new phone. I've read a few posts that state that you can't unlock after 180 days, I don't think that's accurate. Get new phone, but an existing sim in, use that new for for 180 days and it will be unlocked.

My local Best Buy has ton of SIM cards from simple mobile, tracfone, h2o. Net10, total wireless. If I buy one of these and activate it will it work for port in?

No because you'll need service on them. So you'll have to get pay as you go or monthly service to get a number, account number and pin
