R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

You should port a number to cricket to see the lesser price.

Did that too. As far as I can tell I did everything the same as the first line I already signed up for. The first line was a tello number I just used an old phone to sign up with. This second one was going to be using my legit number that I'm porting from red pocket. I even tried my moms number to see if it was because the contact info for the first one I did is the number that I'm trying to port for this second one....no cake.

Edit: I think I figured out what the issue might be. Both my phone/sim and my moms phone/sim that I tried out are being used with redpocket with their ATT line......which means I guess no phone for me, considering my phone is locked with ATT and I have no other sprint phone available.

Damn I had a number that started off as AT&T, went Sprint, and then back to AT&T, Visible and now Cricket. Every time either getting a debit card or discounted phone lol.

no, you are buying as a new customer with new account. You can put existing sim in new phone. I've read a few posts that state that you can't unlock after 180 days, I don't think that's accurate. Get new phone, but an existing sim in, use that new for for 180 days and it will be unlocked.
I'm not buying as a new customer with new account. I'm simply adding a line by porting and ebay number to my account. I was pretty sure this worked before with Iphone 7 deal and LG phone deal in the past. The credit just drop into my account since I never activate the phone.

Check spam if you need to -- make sure you're using an email that's never had a Cric referral before
I do the same. Self refer with new email
