R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

I would error on the side of over ordering than waiting. I have messed up the port numbers in the past and they stay stuck in limbo for a week and finally cancel without giving me a reason or recourse. Not saying that would happen to you. But they might run out of phones while we wait.

you might consider getting a clean TMobile or boost number and putting in another order - if you end up getting both shipped you can always trade one in at Apple for $100 profit. There's no loss.

For those who placed an order with an number from an ebay seller, you can check cricketwireless.com/portstatus to see if there's an issue with the number. My first order showed "Transfer Delayed". Turns out the number was not active on Boost. I contacted the ebay seller and he gave me a new number. Placed a new order and checked port status. Now it says "All Set". Hopefully it will ship.

Thanks on this. I ordered Saturday afternoon and had not gotten a shipping confirmation yet. Checked just now and says all set. ^^^ post should be pinned.

I didn't get an email update about port status either but used cricket chat to confirm port transfer(after an initial 'we need more info') email. CSR said all looked good and I'd receive a ship notification on the next business day.

I think this needs repeating..for those ordering 2 phones with different account numbers(like what you get from ebay). The Cricket website only asks for the 1st account number when you order. Normally, you will get an email from Cricket asking for 2nd account number, but sometimes this does not happen. This will cause your order to eventually be cancelled.
So, I would suggest to be proactive and call customer service about a 1/2 hour or so after you order(or chat for the younger generation who seem deathly afraid to call and talk to a human) and give them the 2nd account # and pin.
