R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Are you saying that it'll get automatically unlocked after 6 months even if it's not active under cricket network?
No it's still locked to Cricket until you satisfy the requirements. I was just happy it wasn't a GSM only model - it's the fully factory unlocked model that would support Verizon/Sprint.

Received mine today MX9N2LL/A Model A2275. Activated phone by inserting Cricket SIM, created an account but where in Cricket website shows the countdown of days left to unlock? All I see is request unlock and when I click on it it just shows "Your unlock code is not available. Please call Customer Care at 1-800-274-2538 for assistance." Where can I see the countdown?
I put the sim in a different phone. When I request unlock on the IMEI of the Iphone SE it gives me a countdown of 178 days.

If you buy the 2 phones on one order, then you'd can't do the plan downgrade to cover the second month can you?
We should be able to do it but for two phones, you'll pay $90 towards service so $30 plan will work accordingly meaning you would need another $30 for second month in case you want to keep both lines active.

In store is limit 1 and can only be used towards the purchase of a new iPhone. At least that is what the store rep told me today when I called. This may be a temporary and/or regional policy due to the virus. You also need to make an appointment to trade in.

If you plan to trade in the phone, do you still need to activate it on cricket?

I want to keep one line active. I see 30$ credit in my account (after downgrading both lines to $30). If I want the credit to be applied to a single phone number, do I call them and do so and let other line die?

I ordered my phone on Saturday, UPS shows it shipped out yesterday though it's not in system yet, so checked with a Cricket chat rep to see if its arriving today or tomorrow. She said I should 'probably' be getting today, though I have no idea how'd she know that if UPS tracking isn't showing up yet - anyone who's phone shipped this weekend have updated tracking, or received today?
Same boat here. Ordered Saturday, and UPS tracking still shows "On Its Way to UPS". Anybody sharing the tracking status?

Got my iPhone SE 64GB (Red) today

Comes with iOS 13.7. Model A2275. T-Mobile SIM didn't work on initial activation so I can confirm the carrier lock is active to Cricket.

Activated my service online and the phone with the supplied Cricket SIM. I created my account with the temp password via text and immediately downgraded my plan to the $30 one and applied my referral code.

For those wanting a unlock solution without waiting the 180 days, I updated the phone to the latest iOS 14.2 and now have it working on T-Mobile with a RSIM-15 that I purchased off a seller on eBay for $9.95

Does this only work with the $60 plan? Looks like there is also a $30 plan, does any know if that will work too?

This deal works only on $60 plan. But you can downgrade later immediately after activating to $30 plan.

I had no issue getting the $30 plan a couple months ago.
