You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.
It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.
Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.
back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

Comes with iOS 13.7. Model A2275. T-Mobile SIM didn't work on initial activation so I can confirm the carrier lock is active to Cricket.
Activated my service online and the phone with the supplied Cricket SIM. I created my account with the temp password via text and immediately downgraded my plan to the $30 one and applied my referral code.
For those wanting a unlock solution without waiting the 180 days, I updated the phone to the latest iOS 14.2 and now have it working on T-Mobile with a RSIM-15 that I purchased off a seller on eBay for $9.95

Its technically two chips in one. You cut it in half and each can be used on one phone. So its good for two devices.
Also do we have to cancel the plan to stop the monthly charges?
Plan to use this as just ipods for kids

Can I put in my old cricket sim after I activate the phone with the new sim? And the 60days will still count.
I don't think Cricket even knows the word refund exists, I think it will sit as a credit in your account.

Is cricket looking fir something else? Both orders my verizon lines got a text notifying of the port and both times canceled by cricket. When i click order status there is nothing to update. Just says they are working with my carrier which is bs.
