R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

So I placed the order now. Should I wait for the phone to arrive in order to downgrade the plan? I just need the phone to trade in to the Apple Store.

Or should I use my order number and the phone number to activate the line and then downgrade

How long do I need the lines active on cricket after activation? I'm looking to port out for other deals.

Got the lines last night but Cric checkout stopped working so I waited until morning

You can get a new Tello number instantly -- port out info is given in your online account

Not sure if there's a port out delay but you can wait an hour if you want to -- Tello account number is the same for all family lines

Paid for 1st line:
$5 plan (100min/free text/no data) -15% promo "15OFFAFF" = $4.25 + tax = $5.09

2nd & 3rd lines were free using $10 Tello Dollars -- $5 each no tax

Created account and paid for 1st line -- added single family line which used $5 credit then added another single family line which used remaining $5 credit (3rd line took an hour to come probably a manual review)
Can you tell me how you got the $10.00 Tello dollars? I need to add another line in early December. I might of missed the steps on how to get that credit.

Enter a referral code at checkout is where the $10 comes from.

Because the phone number is linked to the account number and locked to the sim not the device. So if you are selling the phones or trading them in you don't need to open them. Well I had to open mine to fit them in the Phobio mailer.

So if you are keeping the iPhone it would still be unlocked after 6 months even if never opened as long as you keep your cricket account paid using the referral credits. First 2 months you already paid for if you downgrade the $60 to 2 x $30. So the other 4 months will be $120 or 5 referrals.
Unless something changed very recently you have this backwards. The unlock is tied to the device not the sim. You must keep ANY active Cricket sim in the phone for 6months.

This has been proven previously in the old Cricket deals. See the threads from the previous iPhone 8plus deals back in Aug.

I'm counting down one now using an existing line I had in one of those 8plus phones. The sim it shipped with is dead (no service) and the clock is still ticking.

Someone jump in if I'm wrong on this.

Here's the language from Cricket site:

"To unlock your phone, you must maintain active Cricket service for at least six months or be on an Unlimited plan with service activated before Jan. 4, 2018. "

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Yes you are correct maybe I was explaining how the deal is working for me with trading in the locked never activated phone to Phobio. But if you were to give the phone away it would still be locked to cricket for 6 months. The activation of the phone number that you ported in and the $60 plan just completes the terms and conditions of the deal for that you don't actually have to use the new iPhone.

Now that I know in order to do the trade in with Phobio from my first round the iPhone has to be out of the box and fully charged I will just activate them with the sim when my second round of 2 arrive tomorrow.

So annoying that I've been with cricket for 4+ years, and there's no deals for existing customers. I don't want to do the existing customers thing. It rewards people to jump around carriers.

Can you add a 2nd line to your 1st line and thus get the line cheaper, and a 3rd and 4th thus getting it cheaper and cheaper?

That is what I did with my first order of 2 since at that time there was no $20 off code. So 2 lines on same account are $90 on checkout instead of $60 + $60 = $120 so you save $30. If I was keeping the phones then I would do this with the TAKE20 and do 2 separate accounts and then merge them and get the 4 lines for $100.

Used Bing Rebates yesterday -- they seem to be giving $10/phone
Cricket Wireless
11/24/2020
Pending
$20.00

Before I saw WikiBuy -- if someone uses that then report back if it actually pays $30/phone

Referral credit as other person mentioned

They need to give incentives to attract new customers -- most people with old/broken phones are willing to switch only for a phone deal

Majority of existing customers are too lazy to switch around on any carrier -- most of their base customers won't be going anywhere

Just play their game laugh out loud

If you are prepaid, never stick to a single carrier if you are interested in any deals.
