R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Do you have to use the same phone during 6 months to get ot activated. I don't want to use the phone probably gift it someone, but use the service for 6 months on my regular phone.
You could gift it, but remember, it's locked to Cricket. And to unlock it, the phone must be on Cricket network for 6 months, probably consecutively to be able to request unlock.

Can the same sprint sim & imei you used for the first number be used after 1st port out for a 2nd or 3rd time or do you need a new imei for every new number?
The same sprint sim and imei can be used again. I used sprint sim and imei to get a new phone number to port to cricket, and used the same sprint sim and imei to port back to Tello. However, don't know if Cricket will prorate the monthly cost or not.

Interesting. I just bought a tello sim & $5 plan. It sounds like you can make new numbers indefinitely. I didnt port out but asked cricket to cancel a line(I have 2) & prorate the difference but they said I already paid for the month & dont offer refunds for that

Does anyone know if you port in a number to Cricket, can you then get a new number later?

Reason: I need a number to port in for the deal, but what if I get a number that I don't want (like another area code far away), after the initial port in, could I then ask Cricket for a local number?

Thanks
